The doctor prescribed antidepressants. Haven't started taking them yet. I read online that you can't take them with alcohol. Yesterday I drank 3 glasses of wine. Can I start taking antidepressants today?
Yes, you can, and which ones have been prescribed? I'm also taking antidepressants.

Paroxetine
And how quickly do they start working? I've just taken my first pill, don't even know what to expect) They say the first 4-5 days will be rough, depression will get even worse

When you stop taking them, there might be 'withdrawal syndrome' – your condition could flare up.
When taking MAO inhibitors, alcohol must not be consumed because serotonin and tyramine syndromes may occur. When antidepressants are combined with alcohol, the respiratory system becomes depressed, which is life-threatening.
Some antidepressants, when combined with alcohol, sharply increase blood pressure, which can trigger a stroke. Additionally, alcohol in combination with antidepressants can intensify the side effects of the medication.

With each subsequent intake in combination with alcohol, the risk increases.
Author, did you even read the instructions before starting the course? It clearly states that alcohol is prohibited while taking the medication. When you begin taking them, you consciously agree to this. If you cannot give up alcohol, it's better to stop taking the medication, although there may be "withdrawal symptoms." Take care of your health)

They write a lot of things in the instructions. On food packaging they also write: may contain traces of lactose/eggs/fish/nuts/soy etc. Just in case.
Author, my apologies) I must have misread your post. I think you can start taking the pills after 24 hours.

They need to be chosen carefully, generally. If you started feeling bad in the first few days, it means they aren't suitable for you. Talk to your doctor about this. Are you feeling bad emotionally from them or physically?

Drowsiness, a strange state, probably more physically unwell, no energy. But I was warned that it would be emotionally difficult. Emotionally seems okay... I think I'll just give up on this whole idea of taking antidepressants.

Is it something due to nerves? Have you seen a psychotherapist?

Yes. He prescribed it. It was bad for a long time, toxic relatives were winding me up, but now it's easier since they're not around.

Don't give up! At first, all antidepressants make you feel bad, as the side effects intensify, but in a week it'll be good)

The first 10 days, the condition is worse than before. Then, over the next 20 days, it slowly improves and returns almost to normal. Morning drowsiness (as a side effect) subsides—antidepressants are not painkillers. The medication needs to build up in the blood. After that, it will help. Hang in there a little longer. Good luck!

The first two weeks of taking antidepressants need to be 'covered' by taking tranquillisers. And a competent doctor prescribes them only as a combination. Then there won't be unpleasant sensations at the start of taking them.
Drink alcohol. Once a week is fine. Cipralex starts working after about three weeks.

Igor I thought they lower blood pressure, not raise it—you're mixing things up.

I've been taking paroxetine for a long time. And sometimes in the evening, I treat myself to a beer. Everything's always fine.

I took Paxil and alcohol, it was something else. Firstly, you get used to alcohol really quickly when on antidepressants. You drink and don't get drunk, the intoxication is slower and the buzz is much stronger, then you do mad things. I could go out at night looking for a late-night shop for a top-up, it was impossible to stop. A whole summer went by like that, in the morning my head hardly hurts, there's no such strong hangover, and in the evening you want to drink again, how I got off that - it's a miracle. I had to stop taking Paxil to get off the alcohol dependency. I'm scared to remember that time now. I don't recommend combining them. You won't die, but you can easily get hooked on the booze.

It doesn't say that there. It says: not recommended. But not prohibited.

Yes, but don't drink during the treatment, or there will be trouble.
Could I ask you to describe it in as much detail as possible 🙏🏻 in vivid terms, so to speak. What did this trouble look like for you?

I'm on amitriptyline, often indulge in beer and wash down the tablets (plus Quetiapine) – everything's fine, but the rebound will be obvious, of course, given time (depression symptoms return). And when I was on Zoloft, the combination of beer and pills was just amazing! I don't recommend it, but there doesn't seem to be anything terrible either ;))))
