antidepressants

The doctor prescribed antidepressants. Haven't started taking them yet.
I read online that you can't take them with alcohol.
Yesterday I drank 3 glasses of wine.
Can I start taking antidepressants today?

Yes, it's possible, and which ones were prescribed? I also take antidepressants.

How quickly do they start working? I just took my first pill, don't even know what to expect)
They say the first 4-5 days will be rough, depression will get even worse

Paroxetine started working for me on the 5th day. I felt a sense of calm

When you stop taking them, there might be 'withdrawal syndrome'—your condition could flare up.

If you don't complete the full course.

When taking MAO inhibitors, alcohol consumption is prohibited because serotonin and tyramine syndromes may occur. Combining antidepressants with alcohol suppresses the respiratory system, which can be life-threatening.
Some antidepressants, when combined with alcohol, sharply increase blood pressure, potentially triggering a stroke. Additionally, alcohol combined with antidepressants can amplify the side effects of the medication.

With each subsequent use combined with alcohol, the risk increases.

Author, did you even read the instructions before starting the course? It clearly states that alcohol is prohibited while taking the medication. When you start taking them, you consciously agree to this. If you cannot give up alcohol, it's better to stop taking the medication, even though there might be "withdrawal symptoms." Take care of your health)

They write a lot of things in the instructions.
On food packaging they also write: may contain traces of lactose/eggs/fish/nuts/soy, etc.
Just in case.

Author, I apologize) I must have misread your post. I think you can start taking the pills after 24 hours.

I already started. Already feeling bad) I started yesterday... I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't take them at all. I've never taken them before.
But the doctor said I have to...

You really need to find the right ones. If you started feeling bad in the first few days, it means they're not suitable for you. Talk to your doctor about this. Are you feeling emotionally bad from them or physically?

Drowsiness, a weird state, probably more physically bad, no energy.
But I was warned that it would be bad emotionally.
Emotionally seems okay...
I think I'll just give up on this whole idea of taking antidepressants.

Is it something stress-related? Have you seen a psychotherapist?

Yes. He prescribed it.
It was bad for a long time, toxic relatives were pushing me over the edge, but now it's gotten easier, especially while they're not around.

Don't give up! At first, all antidepressants make you feel bad, because the side effects intensify, but in a week it'll be good)

The first 10 days, the condition is worse than before. Then, over the next 20 days, it slowly improves and returns almost to normal. Morning drowsiness (as a side effect) subsides. Antidepressants are not like painkillers—they need to build up in the blood. After that, they will help.
Hang in there a little longer. Good luck!

The first two weeks of taking antidepressants need to be 'covered' by taking tranquilizers. And a competent doctor prescribes them only as a combination. Then there won't be unpleasant sensations at the start of taking them.

Drink alcohol. Once a week is fine. Cipralex starts working in about three weeks.

I thought they lower blood pressure, not raise it, you're mixing things up

I took Paxil and alcohol, it was something else. First off, you get used to alcohol really fast when on antidepressants. You drink and don't get drunk, the intoxication is slower and the high is way stronger, then you do crazy stuff. I could go out at night looking for a liquor store to get more, it was impossible to stop. A whole summer went by like that, in the morning my head hardly hurt, there wasn't such a strong hangover, and in the evening I'd want to drink again. How I got off that—it's a miracle. I had to stop taking Paxil to get off the alcohol dependency. It's scary for me to remember that time now.
I don't recommend combining them. You won't die, but you can easily get hooked on booze.

It doesn't say that. It says: not recommended. But not prohibited.

Could I ask you to describe it in as much detail as possible 🙏🏻, so to speak, in vivid colors. What did this trouble look like for you?

I'm on amitriptyline, I often indulge in beer and wash down the pills (plus Quetiapine) everything is fine, but the rebound will obviously happen, just give it time (depression symptoms return).
And when I was on Zoloft, the combination of beer and pills was just amazing! I don't recommend it, but it doesn't seem like a big deal either ;))))
