Elevated prolactin! …

Elevated prolactin! WHAT IS THIS???

I got my hormone tests done. ((((..Elevated prolactin levels were detected. (Prolactin 960.71) Girls, who has dealt with something similar??? What could this affect??...And is this even a serious problem on the path to future pregnancy??!! And how much time is needed to correct the hormone, to achieve absolute fertility??? I'm really worried... Thank you so much in advance to everyone who responds!! P/S/ Yes, I'm planning to see a doctor and have already consulted with a doctor at the medical center...just want to hear opinions from those who have faced this problem directly!

This is the hormone that stimulates milk production. It's harder to get pregnant with it. Mine is low. I got pregnant easily, but there's no milk... The baby is almost entirely formula-fed.

This hormone is not only responsible for milk production; it is also a stress hormone. When its levels are elevated, getting pregnant is not just more difficult—it's simply impossible. It is typically lowered either with Bromocriptine—a fairly old, not very expensive medication taken twice a day (the dose, of course, is prescribed by a doctor), which has a lot of side effects. The second medication is Dostinex; a pack of 8 tablets costs around 1,500 rubles, and the dosage varies but is usually taken twice a week. It is newer, has fewer side effects, and generally doesn’t cause nausea. Overall, if prolactin is your only issue, it can easily be lowered, and there will be no problems with pregnancy :).

5, 7, thank you! I'll try to log in now! To be honest, I'm really worried!!(((( I'm such a panicker.... Zabiyaka, tell me, is there a certain period, so to speak, an "incubation" period that needs to be observed after taking the medication before trying to get pregnant again??

Your doctor will explain everything to you, don't worry, prolactin is also called the stress hormone. Did you follow all the conditions when you had your prolactin tested? According to your tests, it is indeed elevated (though you didn't specify the reference ranges, so it's hard to judge), but it's not a big deal. Regarding the medications, people do get pregnant on Bromocriptine, meaning it can be taken during pregnancy up to a certain week, though I don't know exactly which week. People also get pregnant on Dostinex now, even though the instructions say it shouldn't be taken during pregnancy, but that's written because the drug is relatively new.

Blood tests for hormones are taken on the 2nd-3rd day of the cycle. When I took mine at the end of the cycle, all my hormones were off the charts too, and prolactin—don’t even get me started. I hope they told you about this so you didn’t waste your money and time for nothing.

Bully, thank you, I've calmed down a little... Yes, all conditions were met when taking the blood test for hormones... Here is an excerpt from the results: "Prolactin 960.71 Follicular Phase 74-473 Ovulatory Peak 149-447 Luteal Phase 92-745 Menopause 31-525"... I took it on the 24th day of my cycle—that's what the doctor said.

My prolactin was 1,700 (normal range is 300–700), and I was prescribed pills and injections—I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...

I didn’t have my period for 5 months at all, and as a result, I’m writing to you with my daughter in my arms (she’s now 7 months old). A healthy child—my gynecologist refused to believe it at first, thinking I was pulling her leg about the pregnancy..))

A small detail: I got pregnant within about 10 days after my birthday. Doctors say this is the optimal time for conception.

Button, I congratulate you on your little daughter; there are miracles in this world. You were lucky, but unfortunately, I haven't been as lucky; it hasn't worked out for a year now. Not everyone is as lucky as you, and I don't want to just sit back and say it's all nonsense. I've talked to many girls who were helped by these medications to get pregnant, so don't say "don't believe it." How long did you try to get pregnant?

You girls are really lucky, and I mean it. I have prolactin levels three times higher than normal, and it's been going on for 17 years now. Of course, there's no talk of having my own children. The number of pills I've taken could be measured by the handful... The side effects were so awful... Now my doctor has found the optimal solution for me—medications that induce menstruation. Basically, I "go with the flow" when I want to, and I don't when I don't. But five years ago, we adopted a girl, and we're already ready to apply for a second one... That's how it is.

17 is not true. I've always had elevated prolactin. I don't remember the exact number, but I remember the doctor's eyes and being told that with such prolactin levels, getting pregnant is impossible. Twice, with exactly that prolactin level, I got pregnant on the first try :) The only problem I had was an enormous oversupply of milk after giving birth. Before pregnancy, my breasts barely hinted at a size 2, but I produced so much milk that I could feed two babies and still have to pour out the excess. It's all due to prolactin. In my family, it's hereditary on the maternal side.

Ladies, has anyone who has taken or is taking Dostinex experienced side effects? For me, it's getting worse over time: nausea, heart palpitations, terrible weakness, and such dizziness... I'm afraid to stop the pills on my own, but I can't see the doctor for another week.

I have the same problem with elevated prolactin hormone. I can't get pregnant no matter what. I'm currently taking Bromocriptine tablets, but they're not helping. There's no discharge from the nipples themselves, but there is some nearby in the form of little lumps or something. Does anyone know what this is? And what should I do?

I also have issues with high prolactin levels. I took Dostinex twice a week, one pill each time, then twice a week half a pill, then half a pill per week. In the end, it was still high. I got pregnant on another medication, dexamethasone. Small bumps around the nipples appeared during pregnancy, around the 3rd or 4th month. I breastfed my child until they were 1.8 years old. Now I suffer from mastopathy; there’s a lump about a centimeter in size. My prolactin level is 907, with the norm being up to 500. I took Mastodynon for three months—no results. Now I’m going to take Cyclodynon and some substitute for Dostinex. I need to get an MRI. The doctor said that high prolactin is a lifelong condition. I’ll also have to take birth control... (((((

Lena,

I want to ask you, why do you write that you'll have to take contraceptives if elevated prolactin prevents pregnancy?
лена р
#33
Well, because we need to lower prolactin first (which will increase without medication). And Dostinex and Alactin cannot be taken for a long time. So, birth control pills will lower prolactin in the future.

Anyway, I read up on Dostinex and Alactin—it's horrifying. The side effects are terrible. But I don’t remember what happened to me (whether I felt nauseous or anything else) when I took Dostinex back in 2005. It was important for me to get pregnant by any means necessary.

Hello everyone. Tell me what to do. I recently got my prolactin tested on the 2nd day of my period, and it came out as 1027 with a normal range up to 900. Do I need to take medication? The doctor, of course, prescribed all sorts of things.

And when she pressed hard on the chest, a little discharge came out. The doctor also said to retest on the 25th day, so now I'm waiting. Well, you answer anyway what to do.

Yes, bromocriptine lowers prolactin. Dostinex has fewer side effects, although bromocriptine worked great for me. Also, they say Dostinex is more expensive compared to bromocriptine, but you have to take it less frequently, so for me they end up costing about the same.

Well, it depends on the purpose. For example, I can't get pregnant due to elevated prolactin (it acts like a contraceptive), so I'm lowering it; for pregnancy, it's advisable to lower it to the lower threshold.

Hello everyone. What if prolactin is normal at 416.1, and I take bromocriptine to get pregnant...? Will it not decrease...? And will it not make things worse...? Can anyone answer and advise...

Hi girls, I also couldn't get pregnant for a long time due to high prolactin—it was off the charts at 1010. I was treated for a long time, but nothing helped. I took Dostinex, went on a trip to the south, and got pregnant right away. Doctors scared me that with high prolactin, you could give birth to a sick child, but I didn’t listen. I gave birth to a daughter, and she’s now 2 years and 6 months old—she’s healthy and active, even overly so. During pregnancy, my prolactin was 7320, but the same problems remain: I don’t get my period for half a year. We want a second child, but it’s not happening yet. I don’t want to take birth control because I gain weight from them—I barely managed to lose the weight. What can I take to get pregnant quickly? My husband also wants a child as soon as possible. I’m almost 30, and he’s 35—we don’t want to be old parents either. But don’t lose hope—everything will work out for you!!!!

Girls, I got my prolactin test results on the 5th day of my menstrual cycle—it was 330. The doctor said it's elevated and told me to take Dostinex, 2 tablets twice a week, for four weeks straight. I can't figure out what the normal prolactin level should be?

Ladies, it seems many of you here have a common issue—getting pregnant—and high prolactin is often the culprit. My prolactin has been 3–4 times above normal for about four years now, and I only found out by chance during a check-up. It might have been elevated my whole life; back in the day, they didn’t run these tests. When I was breastfeeding, I had an oversupply of milk. My question is different though: my kids are already grown, my periods are regular, but I’m in the phase called "perimenopause," meaning menopause is approaching. My pituitary gland is normal, and none of the doctors have explained why my prolactin is high, what it affects in my case, what the consequences are, or why I need to lower it. I took Dostinex—such an awful medication—with nausea, weakness, digestive issues, and more. Now my doctor prescribed Agalates, saying it’s milder, but it turns out to be just as bad. I can barely drag my feet, have a bitter taste in my mouth, nausea, and I’ve lost a lot of weight—the same symptoms as with Dostinex. I just don’t understand why I need to lower it and endure all these problems. What else does it affect?
