Has anyone managed to …

Has anyone managed to cure onycholysis (nail separation from the nail bed)?

For 4 years now, the nail on my thumb has been lifting. I'm crying. I've seen many doctors, they diagnose it as a fungal infection and treat me for fungus. Of course, it's completely useless. It's not a fungal infection, but traumatic onycholysis. I've treated it with everything possible. Vitamins, oils, ointments. The nail barely grows back and then suddenly separates again in just one day. Has anyone managed to cure it??

That is possible. It's just that I don't know the exact procedure... but I've heard that long-term treatment is required.

Oh, I've had that too. On the thumb of my right hand. I lived with it for about 3-4 years, covering it with opaque nail polish. Doctors also told me it was either permanent or a fungal infection. Then the same issue started on my middle finger. But then, a couple of months ago, it suddenly grew back on its own. I was shocked and incredibly happy.

It doesn't grow back, it only comes off.

Cool. It turns out this actually has a name :) I get the same thing after pinching my finger. Never even suspected it could be treated.

I had this on my little finger. I did baths with sea salt and iodine. I applied iodine to the nail. I placed a cotton pad with synthomycin ointment on it.

And most importantly, wash with a nail brush, otherwise all the **** just multiplies there, and you mustn't cut off all the white part. My nail was peeling, and I started cutting that part off, thinking if I trimmed it, it would all go away. But it only got worse.

The most important thing is to scrub with a nail brush, otherwise all the dirt just multiplies there, and you mustn't cut off the entire white part. My nail was peeling, so I started cutting that part off, thinking if I trimmed it, it would all heal. But it only got worse.

I also experienced it getting much worse from cutting(( Now I've stopped cutting and am treating it, but it just won't reattach completely((

Did you cure it? How?

I'm currently undergoing treatment for a fungal infection, taking Exifin for the third month and using Oflomil lacquer. One nail is almost healed, but on another finger, it has suddenly started to detach. For a couple of weeks, I've been applying Clavio, suspecting nail dystrophy, but it doesn't seem to be helping. A couple of years ago, it cleared up after using the Mavala nail hydrating serum. I'm not sure what to do now.

Tea tree oil helped me. I trimmed the nail to avoid catching it and causing further detachment.

My injury has turned into a real mess: the nail grows halfway or full length and then cracks right at the base, and at that point, you can see a new nail starting to grow underneath. Because of this, I constantly have to file down the fused parts, and the nail ends up slightly striped. It's a madhouse. It hadn't happened for a year, but it's started again recently.

This is not onycholysis, but onychomycosis; treat it accordingly.

If it's definitely onycholysis, you should trim it as much as possible and then have acrylics applied at a beauty salon to grow it back to the usual length. After a few corrections, it will all be gone.

Girls, has anyone had this on their feet? So, my toenail on the big toe – the corner goes deep inside, I can't cut it that much, so a white part remains and doesn't stick to the nail, and a paste accumulates underneath it that I can scrape out with scissors. It's been like this for years. At the podiatrist, they say everything's fine.

It's growing into the corner. Go to a salon for an ingrown toenail correction.

This happens when the shoe presses on that part of the nail and the corner starts growing in.

Girls, salicylic ointment and Solcoseryl ointment can help. Don't trim your nails. Apply tea tree essential oil and then cover it with one of the ointments. Try one of them for a month, and if it doesn't work, try the other.

All my nails detached halfway from the nail bed due to formaldehyde. I filed them down to the fingertip and did a massage every evening. They grew back.

["Anisa"] This is not onycholysis, but onychomycosis, so treat that instead.

Pfft, right into the puddle.

My toenail was coming off, and I couldn't heal it for almost a year. It grew back when I started applying Exoderil drops into the cavity twice a day (morning and evening after showering). It took about 3 months to reattach. So, only EXODERIL drops worked.

I have had it on my hands and feet, on all my nails, for about 17 years now. It only gets worse. It started with one nail and then spread. The nail plate is detaching from the finger.

I've also started treatment with Exoderil. Could you please tell me, did you use nail polish during the treatment? Summer's just around the corner... don't want to walk around with a white nail.

I had the same issue: suddenly, for no apparent reason, the nail on my ring finger started to detach from the skin. The area where the nail wasn't attached kept growing, and eventually, it was only holding on at the base. Two different dermatologists said it wasn't a fungal infection but rather the result of an injury and referred me to a surgeon (though they did prescribe antifungal spray called "Termicon" to prevent any infection in that 'favorable' spot). Even though there was no injury that I could recall (I would have remembered it ;-) ), I went to the surgeon, and as is typical, their only 'treatment' was 'REMOVAL'! I didn't agree. I started treating it myself. I trimmed the nail as short as possible, soaked it in sea salt baths, removed hardened skin, applied cream, and tightly wrapped the entire phalanx with a plaster. After a couple of months, the nail recovered! Though it's a bit uneven (with vertical ridges) and hasn't reattached all the way to the tip (only about 3/4), it's enough. I hope my experience helps someone.

And what cream did you apply after the sea salt? Did the salt baths essentially help? Thank you.

I developed onychodystrophy due to an allergy to gel polish. All my fingers are affected, and the dermatologist prescribed Clavio. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that this treatment alone is sufficient. I'm additionally applying syntomycin. A fungal test has been ordered.

I'm 25. I've been suffering from this infection since I was about 10... I didn't pay much attention until I was 20, and then when I realized what was going on... I started treatment, went to doctors, visited many specialists, had various tests, and in the end, they kept diagnosing onycholysis, onychodystrophy, onychomycosis... I've taken so many pills... Sporagal, Sporaxol, Terbinafine, Fucis... Itraconazole... Yes, it helped a bit, but as soon as I stop taking them, the nail gets worse again. I've tried almost all ointments... even folk remedies... and it's all back to square one. I did cure one nail, yes, but not all of them. I have it on my hands and feet... and there's pain with it too, I don't know what to do anymore. I've heard about laser treatment, but I'm afraid I'll just be throwing money away. Does anyone know how it's treated with laser???

I had the same thing on my foot, cured it quickly by just cutting it off and pouring hydrogen peroxide over it. I think it happens when shoes are too tight or you've put pressure on it somehow.

I also had a terrible experience with my nails after gel polish—they were lifting halfway or more from the nail bed, it was frightening. I cured it by: soaking them in potassium permanganate baths, making sure to clean out all the dirt thoroughly, applying hydrogen peroxide, taking fluconazole once a week, buying copper sulfate from the post office, diluting it to a light blue solution, letting the sediment settle, then pouring it into an empty bottle with a dropper (like from hydrogen peroxide) and applying it under my nails. You can also use any antifungal drops or ointments; I ordered an antifungal oil from AliExpress. The most important thing is not to be lazy—keep cleaning and applying. Everything grew back normally. My issues started with the primer, so I switched my base coat and now I paint my nails without any problems. Get well soon, and I hope this helps someone.

I had onychodystrophy, and the fungal test came back negative. "Clavio" helped me. I've been using it for 2 months; all my nails were affected after using gel polish. Now all my nails are healthy. I apply the solution twice a day, and you can do it more often. A little patience, and everything will work out.

Could you tell me which base and primer you used before you changed? I suspect mine too. I've changed my technician now, she uses different brands, seems better.

For about five years, I had onycholysis on both of my thumbs until my daughter booked me an appointment with a nail technician a year ago (or rather, the procedures were carried out by trainees under the supervision of the master, as it was a training session, and I was simply the model). They used a file to remove all the parts of the nail that had lifted, and it took a full year for my nails to grow back properly. Now everything is fine. Before that, I had tried every anti-fungal medication available, but nothing worked.

I have the same issue. My nails have started to detach from the nail bed. The gaps are frightening to look at. I suspect the manicurist is to blame for filing them down too aggressively. Though it could also be the gel polish at fault—I've been applying it continuously for about three years without a break. But just to be safe, I'll go and see a doctor.

I recall reading somewhere on here that a girl tried everything, but only regular bleach helped. She applied it, and it all cleared up.

I had a detachment, but it was definitely fungal. It's just that the blood circulation was impaired at the site of the nail injury, and all sorts of infections cling on more easily. After treatment with Binafin, the new nail grew back normally.

Hello! Could you give more details?))) I'm going through the exact same thing right now. Plus itching, blisters, little cracks, dry. I cut the nail right down to nothing, nowhere to even drip))))) was it the same for you? Or was it just lifting from the bed and that's it? Thanks in advance)

I thought I was the only one with this problem. It's been troubling me for four years. Nothing helps. The doctor said it's not a fungal infection. I had my nails tested. But the prescribed treatment didn't work either. Only the thumbnails are affected.

I removed the gel polish myself in January 2018, and my nails became very, very thin—it was painful even to handle warm water. By March, inflammation started in the nail folds, and the cuticle disappeared from some nails... I applied hydrogen peroxide, but it only helped temporarily. One morning, I pressed on the folds, and pus came out. I went to the doctor, who diagnosed it as dystrophy from gel polish. The treatment was prescribed for about 1.5 to 2 months: I'm taking Troxevasin, Ascorutin, and Aevit, and every night, I apply an ointment—first Supirocin B, now Advantan fatty. I've been treating it for a month now, and it's already better: the inflammation is gone, and the parts of the nails that had lifted from the nail bed haven't reattached, but they seem to be growing back normally now. Now, I just have to wait for the entire nail plate to grow out... The doctor said to forget about gel polish forever (((((

I suffered a burn to my nail bed from Trind nail strengthener containing formaldehyde. My nails have lifted by a quarter. I visited a dermatologist who prescribed a bunch of vitamins, massage, and soaks. I've been doing this for a month with no results. I'm applying Solcoseryl and using monarda oil with vitamins. I've read that others also experienced nail lifting due to formaldehyde. Will they grow back, and how long might it take? At the salon, they recommend getting extensions and wearing long nails because, under long nails, the nail plate grows closer to the free edge.
