Hello, girls. I want to know who has taken metformin for treatment purposes and for weight loss. My doctor prescribed it to me because I have some issues. My weight started going down, I haven't really changed my diet much, except that I cut out sugar because it worsens the side effects of this medication. I'm interested in how the medication might behave going forward. Like, will the weight continue to go down, do I need to increase the dosage, and will the side effects get worse. Currently on the medication, I've lost 5 kg in a month.
I took it for 5 months as prescribed by a doctor for weight loss. I didn't lose a single gram, but I had my blood tested and was shocked—while taking this *****, my blood sugar rose (it was 4.8 at the start, and after 3 months of use, it was 6!!!). The TSH hormone was twice the normal level, and uric acid in the blood was twice the normal level. I barely managed to finish the prescribed duration, and a month later, I got my blood tested again—everything was perfect. I will never take this nasty stuff again for anything.

PCOS? I was prescribed it for hormonal imbalance, but there's no official information! I searched so much online, everywhere it just says "may reduce testosterone in men", but some studies weren't conducted... They're sold by prescription, but the doctor didn't write a prescription, just scribbled it on a piece of paper, and the pharmacy didn't want to accept it.

I'm taking it. It was prescribed to lower insulin. I've been taking it for a month so far. I've only lost about 3 kg, it seems. I try to restrict my food intake, but it doesn't always work out.

The thing is, I was also prescribed it for hormonal issues. At first, I had all the side effects, but now I hardly feel like eating at all. My appetite is gone, I eat very little, and I take metformin once a day. It's been a month, and I don't even know how to continue taking it. Should I increase the dose or leave it as is? It's just that I've stopped, how to put it correctly, feeling it, I guess.

Metformin is supposed to reduce insulin resistance, and through that supposedly balance androgens. But it's not certain that you have insulin resistance (and not having it is a good thing). Did you get tests for sugar, glucose tolerance?
They prescribe Metformin to everyone, even with normal sugar tests. It's just unclear how it could help then.

When I went in with a specific gynecological issue, I had tests done for testosterone, estradiol, progesterone, and I think TSH or T3 or T4—I don’t remember exactly anymore. And three months ago, I had a medical check-up where I had my blood sugar tested (or glucose level, I don’t remember exactly, but maybe it’s the same thing). Everything has always been normal.
I tried taking it in courses several times. I didn't lose any weight at all.

Girls, I want to start everything too, but everyone seems to have different reviews. I recently found an interesting article about it: http://diagid.ru/91-primenenie-metformina-dlya-pohudeniya-otzyvy-issledovaniya-instrukciya.html
Could you please contact me? I'm very interested in this topic for research, and your negative experience would be incredibly helpful! Thank you. (I'm attaching my email - littlepups777@mail.ru)

Well, I've lost weight, and in just 3 months, I dropped a whole 12 kg. I took Glucophage—minimal side effects, actually none at all. I recommend giving it a try. If you feel unwell, friends say you can just lower the dose, or there's also Glucophage Long—you only take it once a day, and no problems at all!

This medication has very strong side effects. I only took a few pills and felt extremely unwell, to the point of losing consciousness. My blood pressure dropped significantly, I felt dizzy, and couldn't move around. However, everyone's body reacts differently—some might not experience anything. Still, it's important to be cautious with this medication.

I'm also taking metformin for therapeutic purposes (insulin resistance and high weight because of it). In 2 months, I lost 3 kg, but I changed my diet not completely, but in many ways, and I go to the gym 5 days a week for 2 hours. I haven't had any bad feelings from metformin at all and practically no side effects.

Metformin is a medication that does nothing but harm the body. How can they push something that the body itself resists and resists hard, because it's poison. Read about the side effects people get from it. The medication prevents glycogen accumulation in the liver, and that's the main energy source for muscles. Constant lethargy and drowsiness. Nausea, diarrhea, and other crap. It doesn't treat, it cripples. What the hell kind of life extension—this medication will more likely make you disabled than cure you of anything.

Girls, for weight loss, it's not just metformin you need, but Glucophage Long, and at a dosage of 2000-3000 mg per day. But be prepared for diarrhea at first—the kind where you barely make it to the bathroom after getting out of bed in the morning—dermatitis, and after a month, your hair will start falling out! A lot!!! Personal experience. Of course, it varies from person to person, but if you need to lose around 10-15 kg, it's better to get your butt off the couch and head to the gym. It's not worth such sacrifices.

I don't know why there are so many negative reviews, I'll share my experience. I was prescribed this medication for polycystic ovary syndrome, I've been taking metformin for 7 years now, one tablet a day. After 7 months of taking it, I managed to get pregnant))) I'm very grateful to this medication! As for weight loss, I can definitely say that no miracle will happen if you don't get off the couch and stop eating cakes) but metformin does help lose some weight (about 3 kg), of course.

I am taking it as prescribed by the doctor. The issues are high blood sugar, excess weight, and a ravenous appetite. I suffered from constant hunger due to insulin spikes. After starting the medication, the appetite and hunger disappeared, and my sugar levels dropped to the upper limit of normal. I'm losing 1 kg per month. The lethargy and sleepiness are gone, replaced by energy and alertness. The side effects were intense but only lasted the first five to seven days—headaches, nightmares, severe diarrhea, and shortness of breath. After a week, all the side effects subsided. I'm glad I found a solution to the consequences of overeating and will continue taking it.
Ladies. For those of you taking metformin for weight loss, check out dietitian Kovalkov's video. He explains that obesity has several causes: genetic predisposition, hormones, insulin, and a few others. So, metformin only addresses the cause related to insulin. In other cases, different medications are needed. That's why some people don't see results with metformin.

I'm also interested in reading about this topic because I'm currently choosing a metformin-based medication for weight loss. My doctor gave me a list of options without specifying which one would be better to buy. So, I'm left searching for reviews online—thank goodness for the internet.

I don't recommend anything except Glucophage. I've tried to lose weight several times, experimented with different metformin-based medications, but Glucophage worked best for me. It has the fewest side effects and is highly effective. The weight loss is steady and consistent—no plateaus. I'm satisfied.

So which of these medications are considered analogs? And what is their original counterpart? Honestly, I'm a bit confused by the abundance of these names and terms.
So, Glucophage is the original drug. The others are so-called generics. That's one of the reasons I chose it, among others. I just should have done it right away and not looked for anything else.

How long did you take Glucophage before all the excess weight was gone? I need to lose almost 20 kilograms; how many kilograms per month can I expect to lose if I take Glucophage?

I think the timing is still individual, well, in my case, about 5 kilograms were consistently lost per month. So you can calculate. Just carefully read the instructions before starting, and it's better to consult a specialist on this topic.

A good medication with metformin is Glucophage Long. It doesn't cause any side effects at all; I've been taking it for five months. And it lowers blood sugar well. You only need to take it once, not several times a day. It suits me very well. I recommend it to everyone :)

I have type 2 diabetes. I took metformin for a long time, but it didn't give me the expected results. So my doctor switched me to Glucophage. This medication is well-tolerated, my blood sugar has decreased, my condition has improved, and I was able to lose 8 kg in 3 months.

What is better to take for weight loss, Glucophage or Glucophage Long? What's the difference between them, does anyone know?

The difference is that Glucophage Long should be taken once a day at night, while regular Glucophage is taken twice a day. And Glucophage Long works for a longer time - up to 7 hours.

With Glucophage Long, the metformin is released from the capsule slowly and distributed evenly in the blood, so it doesn't cause any side effects. I took it myself for several months, so I know all the details))

Metformin usually causes flatulence. My mom couldn't take metformin pills because of that. Did you not have that side effect?
No, I didn't. I took Glucophage Long for quite a while - 5 months. I'd recommend your mom try this specific medication. It also lowers blood sugar really well.

I was prescribed Metformin due to elevated morning glucose levels. I started taking it as recommended by everyone, including Dr. Malysheva and other doctors. Its effect is diuretic—at first, I didn't understand, but I was urinating more frequently and in larger amounts. After a week, my heart started to feel like it was squeezing, with irregular rhythms at night, a sudden spike in blood pressure, and I felt cold. Honestly, anyone else might not have survived, but my husband was with me. He gave me half a Concor tablet, one blood pressure pill, plus aspirin, Asparkam, and a vitamin complex. By morning, I felt better, and my heart rhythm normalized. But I no longer take Metformin—it kills people. It flushes all the beneficial nutrients from the body through urine, and weight loss happens only because of that. It's better to move more, eat less flour and sugar, and most importantly, increase physical activity. I doubt any of those who recommend it actually take it themselves.

I've completely stopped paying attention to generics because there have been many times when they didn't help. Either I'm "lucky" enough to get counterfeits, or our drugs are made so "well." The original is the original. With Metformin, it was a classic story in my case. So with a clear conscience, I switched to Glucophage. It immediately became clear that I shouldn't have stepped on the same rake again. It completely normalized my blood sugar in the shortest possible time.

I also got pregnant thanks to this medication. I took two pills a day for half a year and exercised. I lost weight and got two lines on the test. Now I'm taking these pills again -10 kg and the main thing is to exercise and not eat buns.

I am 72 years old, weigh 105 kg, have been taking metformin for 6 years, but haven't lost a single kilogram. The only thing it does is clean out my intestines, so much so that I can't even leave the house.

Good afternoon, I took Glucophage for only 7 days; I couldn’t continue because I became so weak that I didn’t have the strength to stand, felt like crying, and was losing consciousness. I started losing weight, everything was fine, but after stopping the medication, a huge surprise awaited me!!! :) :) Specifically: my trainer said, "Well, okay, you stopped taking the medication—no big deal, just continue following the 1200-calorie diet." I followed it for a week, but then I got tired of it, wanted some ice cream, then a pastry, and so my calorie intake increased to 1600, which is normal!!! But my weight started increasing catastrophically fast. Shocked, I asked what was happening, and the trainer said, "That’s how it will be until something or other recovers, which takes about a month on average." So, gaining 2 kg in a week on 1600 kcal a day, if I continue like this, I’ll gain +8 kg in a month!! The trainer said, "I warned you that the main thing with this medication is to part ways without hard feelings" :)) Good luck, health, and a beautiful body to everyone!

Don't worry, Glucophage is easy to take and has no side effects. I take it myself, I also have excess weight, my sugar was a bit elevated and PCOS
