Intestinal diverticulum

When I had pain in the right side of my abdomen, I underwent an examination. During the barium enema, they found a single diverticulum and said that was the cause of the pain. They recommended surgery if the pain persists, meaning the cause isn't from it 🤦♀️
Does anyone else have diverticula, and how can I manage without surgery?

They found it in me too, but on the contrary, the doctor didn't recommend surgery. Just need to stick to a diet. Avoid eating all sorts of rubbish that can clog up the intestines.

My doctor scared me saying it's life-threatening, but does it bother you???

A CT scan with contrast is necessary. Then, to an experienced and skilled surgeon. What's the point of conducting polls on forums? All patients are different, and each case is unique; the location, the severity of the diverticulum, and other factors matter in deciding whether surgery is needed or not.

Svetlana, have you disappeared? If you really know and aren't just "trolling" or trying to squeeze money out of people, then write. If it's really a worthwhile recipe, so many people would be grateful to you.

And they told me to move more too, drink a spoonful of any oil on an empty stomach in the morning, and take a course of Salofalk every six months for prevention, and this is for life.... And of course diet.

Yes, I was also prescribed Salofalk suspension, the doctor said to take it for about three months, but you can take Salofalk tablets too! Yes, drink lots of water and take psyllium on a permanent basis!

A very relevant topic. I would like to connect with those who are planning a pregnancy with diverticulosis? Or perhaps someone who has given birth... This issue worries me greatly. I had diverticulitis with an infiltrate, which was resolved by fasting and two antibiotics, and I was hospitalized with poor test results. I want a child, but there isn't really clear information anywhere on how dangerous all this is.

There's no treatment, diverticula are forever... here it's either diet or a surgeon to help.

There aren't any recipes. There's only one recipe - the strictest diet.

Dear fellow sufferers, have you noticed that only those who haven't undergone surgery are writing? And there are two conclusions; either they don't survive or they recover and this topic doesn't bother them anymore.
Dear former fellow patients, respond! Share your feelings after surgery, so we can navigate this properly

I've got the same question. I've already been in hospital twice in the last 1.5 years. With infiltration and IV drips with 2 antibiotics. They recommended planned surgery. Is it really impossible to manage without it?

I've had diverticula for a long time now. My doctor advises me to monitor for constipation, to avoid having it. There's no other treatment. If the diverticula become inflamed, then antibiotics need to be taken. The doctor will prescribe them.

I had surgery to remove my sigmoid colon with diverticula, because 2 months before that I had diverticulitis, an abscess and peritonitis, resulting in emergency surgery. The sigmoid was removed as a planned procedure this time.

If there's a threat to life (peritonitis, fistula, etc.) then they schedule an operation.

Good afternoon, stick to the diet (exclude fruits and vegetables with small seeds, limit red meat and eggs, at least 2L of water per day). Prevention after acute diverticulitis: Every month (for a year) take Alpha Normix 400mg/3 times a week, then Enterol

And it's better not to allow a second relapse, as there could be complications like an abscess or fistula. Wishing you good health

Surgery isn't recommended these days (unless there are complications like fistulas etc.) - these are international recommendations.

And what symptoms do you have at all? They diagnosed me with diverticular disease from the colonoscopy. From the biopsy - lymphofollicular dysplasia of the large intestine. Chronic moderately expressed sigmoiditis. For some reason, I have unpleasant sensations more from the back side than from the stomach side. Like a feeling of spreading, inflammation, pulling. Tingling. In general, discomfort. There are no kind of unbearable pain attacks. Such, monotonous unpleasant ones. Feeling of intestines bloated with gases. Especially on the left. No diarrhoea. More constipation. Lately with mucus. Sometimes it's like it hurts with movements. Well, it's definitely the intestines. Since I did ultrasound of all internal organs, stomach was checked too. They didn't find anything. How do you treat yourself?

What bothers me is... pain on the left and right lower abdomen. Sometimes the intestines hurt. And there's pulsating on both sides, radiating to the lower back.
After the colonoscopy they found diverticula in the sigmoid colon.

Hello,
I've read all the comments regarding diverticulosis.
Diverticulosis is a very complex condition.
Unfortunately, it's not possible to get rid of it completely. I was diagnosed with it nine years ago.
The treatment, as correctly noted here, involves diet.
Under no circumstances should you eat nuts.
All fruits and vegetables that contain small seeds are off-limits.
Accordingly, seeds are also forbidden.
Foods that cause bloating are prohibited.
Everything that causes inflammation of the mucous membrane is also forbidden, which includes alcohol.
During remission, you can, of course, allow yourself a little something, but keep in mind—just a little.
Alpha Normix is used during inflammation.
And only this medication, no other, can relieve inflammation in the intestines.
Trimebutine is an antispasmodic.
Omeprazole.
If possible, reduce stress.

At least describe things in detail. Are you writing like that on purpose? People are suffering here. If everyone describes things more thoroughly, maybe they'll find something new that could help themselves. Bloody hell, I'm suffering too: lower abdomen, on the right side, it hurts and the intestine is bulging out, colonoscopy showed diverticulitis. Constipation, constant bloating, laxatives don't always help, I'm fed up. My stomach sticks out like I've swallowed a whole watermelon. I go to doctors, they prescribe various tablets but nothing helps, no diets work, the pain is killing me. At least write in more detail, what's it to you? People, seeing your comments, are hoping they might take the risk and decide on surgery, you should advise them or just not write at all

Yeah, that's worrying too. You'd think it wouldn't cost them anything to leave comments: how the surgery went, rehabilitation, feelings then and now. But no, they'll write that they had the surgery and that's it - wish they'd at least write something detailed
