I had that happen to me. I quit smoking, and it went away almost immediately. When you smoke, the nasopharynx is constantly inflamed.

There are many reasons. Don't forget about the allergist. Most doctors don't think in such terms; they simply check whether the cause falls within their area of expertise or not. Even if you have some inflammation for any reason, a doctor might just prescribe local treatment. (Which, of course, won't help in the long run to completely resolve the issue.)

Have you had COVID before? I've had this for over six months; it comes and goes every few days. I don't pay much attention to it, as it doesn't cause major inconvenience—just a sip of water, a slight cough, and everything's fine. After all, I'm not a singer; even if I hum to myself at home, it doesn't bother me. They say it's a common occurrence—some people get over it in 2-3 months, others in a year or a year and a half, and it's impossible to cure; it just depends on your immune system and how it recovers on its own.

I've got the same thing after this illness too - something unclear in the throat and the nose breathes fine, but there's a feeling of congestion and like there's something there. When you start blowing your nose, there's a bit sometimes, but mostly nothing, and if there is anything, it's clear. I've seen three ENT specialists, they all say everything's fine. And it comes and goes.

That's literally my story! Turned out to be a Thornwaldt cyst. It also got inflamed and burst after a cold. Mucus would flow sometimes more, sometimes less. It wasn't clearly visible on the CT scan, the doctor saw it with an endoscope. They removed it, no mucus now, prescribed antibiotics, it's healing slowly. Wishing everyone good health.

I also had COVID in December 2022. At first I was coughing up phlegm and then the cough turned dry, and I still have occasional coughing fits, constant mucus in my throat. They diagnosed me with pharyngitis, but can it really cause a cough for this long - going into the second year?!

Same here after another confirmed COVID case. Had a bad cough and runny nose in winter, the doctor didn't even listen to my lungs. But I've got chronic rhinitis, and now this mucus has added to it, driving me mad. It's constantly sitting in my throat, you cough it up but it doesn't go away. Tried absolutely everything. Rinse both nose and throat, used Momat Rino drops and took Sinupret. Nothing helps. The only time it gets better is when I'm in Anapa. But when I'm in Moscow region with its humid climate and nearby forests, it gets worse. The runny nose also never goes away.

You clearly need to see an allergist. Get a clinical blood test for eosinophil levels. If the results show they're elevated, then definitely go to an allergist.

But they found nothing on the tonsils or in the larynx...

Reflux needs to be confirmed by a gastroenterologist, probably by swallowing a probe. That's why I haven't gone to one yet; I've been taking Phosphalugel and omeprazole on my own. There's no improvement in the larynx. What the hell is this and what should I do about it???

I read about histamine intolerance or mast cell activation after COVID. I started a low-histamine diet a week ago, still no improvements so far. I'm also taking a Histamine Digest supplement with added diamine oxidase (the DAO enzyme), but there's no improvement.

It feels like the larynx itself is producing mucus. And a little bit is dripping from the nose to the larynx. Before, a lot used to flow from the nose to the throat (it's called postnasal drip), but it's greatly reduced on its own over time.
For the second day now I've been trying not to pay attention to this crap, and it seems to me there's less mucus in the larynx. Possibly, we're injuring the larynx ourselves with constant throat clearing and coughing, and the larynx produces more mucus as a defence mechanism. Try ignoring the problem, only clear your throat in the morning, at lunchtime, and in the evening.

Have you seen a pulmonologist? You should get spirometry done. And definitely a bacterial culture... you can't mess around with hormones if there are bacteria (if the pulmonologist prescribes a hormonal inhaler)

The lump in throat sensation and mucus appeared after COVID, been suffering for 3 months. Saw specialists like endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, ENT, neurologist - all clear. They said I should also see an allergist to rule out allergies.

I found three types of chronic laryngitis online: catarrhal, atrophic, and hyperplastic (something like that word).
Atrophic cannot be treated, hyperplastic requires surgery - they remove the overgrown tissue. I don't remember the rest.
