I feel mucus in my throat, constantly feel like clearing my throat, but it doesn't help much, what should I do? Sometimes my voice disappears too. Especially when I sing, it causes a lot of discomfort and sometimes hoarseness. This has been happening for over a month, I've completed a course of treatment, made another appointment with an ENT specialist, but the appointment is a long way off. This really interferes with my life, even talking is uncomfortable, sometimes this mucus comes into my mouth, but the sensation in my throat doesn't change. Has anyone else experienced this? How did you treat it? #health
I had that happen. I quit smoking, and it went away almost immediately. When you smoke, the nasopharynx is constantly inflamed.

There are many reasons. Don't forget to see an allergist. Most doctors don't think in such terms; they simply check whether the cause falls within their specialty or not. Even if you have some inflammation for any reason, a doctor might just prescribe local treatment. (Which, of course, won't help in the long run for completely resolving the issue.)

Have you had COVID before? I've had this for over six months; it comes and goes every few days. I don't pay much attention to it since it doesn't cause major inconvenience—just drink some water, cough a little, and it's fine. After all, I'm not a singer; even if I hum to myself at home, it doesn't bother me. They say it's a common issue—some people get over it in 2-3 months, others in a year or a year and a half, and there's no cure for it. It just depends on your immune system and how it recovers on its own.

I have the same thing after that illness - something unclear in the throat and my nose breathes fine, but there's a feeling of congestion and like there's something there. When you start blowing your nose, there's a little something, but mostly nothing, and if there is, it's clear. I've seen three ENTs, they all say everything's fine. And it comes and goes.

For a long time I've been coughing up phlegm, my mouth is full of it, I'm snorting because of this. I've checked everything - my throat, my lungs, I even had a CT scan

I was sick in December 2022... and I still have a lingering cough... I went through a medical check-up... All the tests and everything are excellent... What to do... I'm at a loss... I've tried everything... Various tinctures, solutions, gargles... I cough, even though I'm healthy.

I also have mucus in my throat. It's been going on for three months now. It all started with a mild cold. I had a runny nose for three days, and then my voice was nasal for a long time. The mucus comes and goes. Recently, my ear felt blocked too. An X-ray showed a slight thickening of the maxillary sinuses. The ENT prescribed hormonal nasal drops. I don't understand any of it.

That's literally my story! Turned out to be a Thornwaldt cyst. It also got inflamed and burst after a cold. Mucus would flow sometimes more, sometimes less. It wasn't clearly visible on the CT scan, the doctor saw it with an endoscope. They removed it, no mucus now, prescribed antibiotics, healing slowly. Wishing everyone good health.

I also got sick in December 2022. At first I was coughing up phlegm, but then the cough turned dry, and I still have occasional coughing fits, constant mucus in my throat. They diagnosed me with pharyngitis, but can it really cause a cough that lasts this long - going on the 2nd year?!

Hello. I had mucus for 1.5 years. I went through a bunch of doctors and examinations, no one could see the cause, they just kept referring me everywhere. I bought IRS 19, sprayed it in both nostrils, and felt improvement that same day, by evening it was dry. No mucus or cough bothered me. I'm not a doctor, just speaking from my own experience. You could try it, maybe it'll help you too. Stay healthy!!!

Hello! Same problem here, it's been 4 years already. Were you able to cure it?

Same with me after another confirmed COVID case. In winter I had a bad cough and runny nose, the doctor didn't even listen to my lungs. But I have chronic rhinitis, and now this mucus has been added, it's driving me crazy. It's constantly sitting in my throat, you cough it up but it doesn't go away. I've tried everything already. I rinse both my nose and throat, used Momat Rino drops and took Sinupret. Nothing helps. The only thing is when I'm in Anapa, it gets better. But when I'm in the Moscow region with humid climate and forest nearby, it gets worse. The runny nose also doesn't go away.

You clearly need to see an allergist. Get a clinical blood test for eosinophil levels. If they come back elevated, then definitely go to an allergist.

Hello! Have you managed to find the cause of the mucus? I've had it for three years, I have reflux, and I'm currently treating my pharyngitis, but there's no result at all....
So are you treating the reflux? Are you following a diet? Reflux and pharyngitis are closely related

The same thing, after either COVID or a rhinovirus, I first had postnasal drip for about 2 months, and now this something in my larynx has been going on for 3 months. The ENT said it's laryngitis due to reflux. I did a bacterial culture, hoping it was a bacterial infection that could be treated with antibiotics. But they found nothing on my tonsils or in my larynx... Reflux needs to be confirmed by a gastroenterologist, probably by swallowing a probe. That's why I haven't gone to one yet; I've been taking Phosphalugel and omeprazole on my own. There's no improvement in my larynx. What the heck is this, and what should I do about it??? Oh, and I got my blood tested for eosinophils and IgE—everything is at the absolute minimum. I also did an Alex2 test for almost 300 allergens, and I have no allergies. I read about histamine intolerance or mast cell activation after COVID. I started a low-histamine diet a week ago, but no improvements so far. I'm also taking a Histamine Digest supplement with added diamine oxidase (the DAO enzyme), but there's no improvement.

Feels like a lump in the larynx. I can cough it up, but it's endless. The phlegm never stops. I want to get a bacterial culture done too.... I'm going crazy

Good evening. Could you please tell me, does the mucus pull from below?
Good evening. I don't even know how to answer, I didn't understand the question. It feels like the larynx itself is producing mucus. And a little bit is dripping from the nose to the larynx. Before, a lot used to drip from the nose to the throat (it's called postnasal drip), but it has significantly decreased on its own over time. For the second day now, I've been trying not to pay attention to this crap, and it seems to me that there's less mucus in the larynx. Possibly, we ourselves are injuring the larynx with constant throat clearing and coughing, and the larynx produces more mucus to protect itself. Try to ignore the problem, only clear your throat in the morning, at lunch, and in the evening.

Have you been to a pulmonologist? You should get a spirometry done. And a bacterial culture is a must... you can't mess around with hormones based on bacteria (if the pulmonologist prescribes a hormonal inhaler)

I read your comment and bought IRS-19, I've been spraying it for a week, it helps me for 30 minutes, thins the mucus, and then it comes back. The feeling of a lump in the throat and mucus appeared after COVID, I've been suffering for 3 months. I've seen specialists like an endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, ENT, neurologist - all is good. They said I still need to see an allergist to rule out allergies.

Sometimes the mucus is impossibly thick, other times it's constantly thin and stuck in my larynx and throat... please help me... It's useless to go to doctors, the prescribed treatments don't work... No matter who I turn to, they don't see anything wrong... but everyone prescribes some treatment... yet the situation remains the same as it was, dragging on and on... it just stays there... and it's been half a year of this torment already.

I found three types of chronic laryngitis online: catarrhal, atrophic, and hyperplastic (something like that word). Atrophic cannot be cured, hyperplastic requires surgery - they remove the overgrown tissue. I don't remember the rest. Try breathing Pulmicort through a nebulizer, twice a day.
