Hi, why is it that with low ferritin you don't feel like doing anything, have terrible weakness, memory suffers, and difficulty thinking. I went to a neurologist, he said just to raise iron levels, but it's not going up well. Anyone else experienced this, please share your experience.
And what about yours? I have 6. But it didn't just come out of nowhere...

You need a haematologist. A neurologist is completely irrelevant here.

Find a good doctor. I do not advise self-medication. My level was 8. I took Sideral Forte for three months, then switched to Fe (Now). After six months, it was 56. Be sure to take it with vitamin C, but not the effervescent kind. I opted for Solgar.

There are many topics about anaemia. We had such an issue in our family. And it all started simply with a routine blood test, which showed very low haemoglobin. Then the search for causes began. Indeed, find a good haematologist; they will refer you for tests to identify the reason for these low readings.

Some of your organs aren't functioning quite right: either your stomach or your intestines. That's the cause. An acquaintance of mine had the same issue; she was diagnosed with both. She doesn't absorb iron properly. But you need to take it wisely, otherwise, it could affect your liver. You must consult a doctor. Go and see a doctor.

Well obviously you're going to feel poorly. Oxygen isn't being transported properly through the blood, hence all the problems. The neurologist only sees the symptoms, they're not from nerves but from poor oxygen supply to the brain among other things. You need a haematologist.

Can this cause severe weakness, chills, difficulty thinking and memory problems?

Well it's pretty basic really. Ferritin is needed for haemoglobin, haemoglobin is for carrying oxygen in the blood. Oxygen is needed for brain and muscle function. What part isn't clear?

I never thought ferritin could affect things so much, I can barely drag my feet when I walk, I've got almost no memory, it's become really hard to think.

You're better off not thinking about it and getting checked out. Ferritin isn't such a harmless indicator. There could be loads of reasons for iron deficiency, right up to oncology.

I had an endoscopy, TSH test, everything was normal at the time.

It's good that it's normal, so you're following the doctor's prescription. Did they prescribe you something?

My mum was prescribed Tardiferon (I think that's what it's called) - it's pure iron. Her body doesn't absorb it properly because of her stomach (something's not right there). Actually, a haematologist determined this after all the tests. The course was 2 months (they prescribed Motilium and plantain too), so it's cumulative. There are results! They found the cause and treated accordingly. Maybe you haven't taken it long enough yet. Maybe another doctor could prescribe something more appropriately. If you raise your ferritin levels your condition should improve. My mum could barely walk, she was exhausted, her legs kept giving way. Get proper treatment, wishing you good health!

I was taking Sorbifer Durules, and within a few months, my levels rose from 9 to over 50 and haven't dropped since. That was several years ago; now it's 60.

With low ferritin levels, I had no energy for simple daily tasks, constant fatigue, a desire to sleep, I would fall asleep early and couldn't wake up in the mornings. There were no side effects from the tablets.

Yes, very much. You forget basic things like whether you turned off the hob, why you came to the table, mood is awful, obsessive thoughts, anxiety, restlessness, poor sleep, tachycardia sometimes, ringing in the ears, hair falling out, burning in the chest, dry skin, blackouts, dizziness, body aches especially the back. COVID + heavy periods. Ferritin was never even checked in hospital here. Haemoglobin normal and go home. Started taking iron Ferretab 2 capsules and periods became lighter and symptoms gradually started going away. I take vitamin D, switched from Phenibut (3 weeks 2 tablets - no longer due to timeframe, hard to come off it) to Novopassit - calms the heart, reduces anxiety, relaxes muscles, lets you sleep properly without waking every two hours from nightmares, clarity in the head, lightness, no zombie state, have mood and desire to live) and B vitamins (full complex). Get vitamin C from juices. Walk two hours every day. Anyone who needs more write to me on Telegram @ivoryflower

Exactly the same symptoms. Saw so many doctors and eventually figured out the cause myself. Been taking Ferretab comp 1 capsule with effervescent vitamin C for a month now. There are changes, ferritin was 12 now 19, skin isn't flaking, heels are smooth, hair isn't falling out excessively and new growth started, mood improved, no energy crash like before. Of course it's not fully treated yet, but there's progress. Muscle pain and weakness still present, ringing in ears. Also had depressive state, apathy, irritability, panic attacks, now normal. But I hope everything will be wonderful going forward) All the best to everyone! Stay healthy!)

And what is your ferritin level? Mine is 36. I fall within the reference range. But the explanation in the response says that if it's below 75, there's either an infection or inflammation in the body. Yes, I've had trigeminal nerve pain for 30 years without a break. Naturally, it's inflamed. I want to inject vitamin B12, as it helps with iron deficiency. I'd like to know about others—what their iron levels are. Thank you.

I recently saw a neurologist, they prescribed some tests, and it turns out my ferritin is low at 8 and haemoglobin is 109. I've booked an appointment with a haematologist, let's see what they say.

When I had a similar issue, I was prescribed a specific medication - Bonoferlat. It helped me tremendously. Everything was restored within just one course of treatment. About a week and a half after starting it, I began to feel better, and it only improved from there.

Take Hema-plex. It has good doses of iron plus cofactors for absorption. Check your protein levels; with low protein, iron has nothing to bind to in the body. All women have reduced ferritin due to menstruation. If periods are heavy, iron should be taken every month, not just one course. One course won't improve anything. My Ferritin is 45. It's considered low. Supposedly, it should equal your weight. Otherwise, you get weakness, anxiety, worse skin, etc.

And what iron supplements were prescribed? I really liked Boniferlat. It's pure iron with vitamin C. And in a special form too. All of this significantly improves iron absorption and reduces the risk of side effects. After my course, everything is absolutely fine.

I took Evalar's liposomal iron in capsules. Only this supplement managed to raise my ferritin levels. It's an equivalent to Sideral Forte but with a superior composition. It has a high dosage of 30 mg, and the capsules last for a month, whereas Sideral Forte only covers 20 days.
