About four years ago, I went to a mammologist complaining of pain in one specific spot in my breast. He felt around and said everything was fine. What a jerk. Because a year later, cysts were discovered in that exact spot and then all over my breast.
And then, by the way, a fibroadenoma appeared precisely in the place where I had complained to that idiot doctor.
So, ladies, if something hurts, go straight for an ultrasound—that's point one. Point two—cysts are not cancer, don't be scared, many people have them, they live and don't die. Yes, you need to keep an eye on them, but there's no point in panicking. However, taking charge of your health—100%.
With cysts—immediately go to a gynaecologist for a pelvic ultrasound (even if you weren't told to, do it yourself; one lady at a free clinic didn't detect a small nodule for a year, while I was simultaneously getting checked at a private clinic and already knew about my gynaecological issues. That lady, of course, didn't send me for any ultrasound—she couldn't care less).
Another doctor you need is an endocrinologist. Definitely get your hormones checked; in my case, prolactin was elevated, which led (after I had an MRI of the pituitary gland) to the discovery of a pituitary microadenoma. But honestly, they found it, so what do we do about it? The same thing—I take Dostinex/Agalates and monitor it to make sure the microadenoma doesn't start growing. So, prolactin under control, and, of course, regular thyroid ultrasounds.
