polyp in the rectum

polyp in the rectum

The doctor diagnosed me with a small polyp in the rectum. He said it needs to be operated on. I'd have to be hospitalised, then take sick leave. I don't have that kind of huge money for the operation, and I can't just lie at home for two months while everything heals and resolves. Who will work in my place, and what will I live on? What should I do? Can I avoid operating on this polyp? Or is it mandatory? Please advise, anyone who's been through this!!!

Polyps must be removed in any case, as they have the potential to develop into malignant tumours.

Polyps can be removed endoscopically, then sent for histology. If nothing is found, you can carry on with your life without worry... They are removed through the rectum using a colonoscope with a special loop at the end, and that's it... Why would surgery be necessary, or are they of some extraordinary size in your case? Perhaps consult another doctor to see if there are alternative methods? Have a look at some links online...

What does it mean to remove endoscopically?

So they'll give you a good sedative, possibly even anaesthesia, insert a special device into the anus, and remove the polyp. Basically, it's a kind of operation with minimal trauma. You'll recover within a week. After that, you'll just need to stick to a diet for a while. I had my liver operated on with an endoscope. The only reminders of the surgery are four tiny scars, each up to 1 cm in size. Sometimes they even do it through just one puncture. And in your case, they probably won't even need to cut, since it's in the rectum. They'll do it through the anus, and that's it.

I spent a total of two weeks in the hospital for the operation, and even then, I waited a week for the surgery itself because they were treating the inflammation after the attack.

I'm really afraid that I'll have to struggle with going to the toilet and diets for the rest of my life.

My mum recently had a polyp removed. Two hours later, she was already back at her desk. She wasn't even admitted to the hospital. They scheduled a time, she went in, was given anaesthesia, and had it removed. Her sister waited for her, then they went to a restaurant, and afterwards she went to work. No special diet was prescribed. That's it. Well, perhaps you shouldn't rush straight back to work, but two months in hospital is just nonsense. A week later, my mum went to get the test results—they analyse the polyp for cancer cells—and everything was fine. That the polyp needed to be removed is absolutely clear.

By the way, calling this a surgery is a bit of a stretch. You won't have a scar—it's done through the anus. You definitely won't have to struggle with toilet issues or diets. Who scared you like that?

Now, if you leave the polyp, by the time you reach a more mature age, you won't be able to live without an enema—that's 100% certain.

It must be treated, otherwise the faecal matter could damage it, causing bleeding and potentially leading to blood poisoning. It is treated endoscopically. A diet is necessary afterwards because if you don't pass soft stools, there will be pain. Usually, they stay for 10 days. Nowadays, they don't keep you in the hospital longer.

Why lie down for so long? My mother-in-law recently had hers removed, was discharged the next day, and is now bouncing around like a horse. She's 75 years old.

Could you please tell me how you discovered it? Did you have any symptoms? I have some suspicions myself, but I'm afraid to get a colonoscopy—it's scary. Please share your experience, author.

What should I do if I'm six months pregnant and a polyp occasionally bleeds? Should I go for any examinations? Will there be any complications during childbirth? I'm very worried.

I had a colonoscopy. It wasn't scary at all, even though I read a lot of frightening things online. Tomorrow I'm going to the clinic to have a polyp removed, and there's no sick leave at all.

I was discharged from the hospital the other day!! Had a polyp removed! I was more nervous and preparing for it than the actual surgery lasted! After the operation, I stayed in the hospital for 10 days and will be at home for another 10 days, as the doctor said! Happy as a clam!!! The ordeal with bowel movements is over! Make the decision and live peacefully! Of course, I need to follow a diet until the stitches in the rectum heal!!!

And there are different types of procedures!!! Some might just get it cauterised, others might have it cut out, and some might even have it treated with a laser! It all depends on your polyp! So it's really no surprise that the comments vary((

I had a polyp removed from my rectum in just 5 minutes under local anaesthesia (completely painless). At Hospital No. 31, the doctor was Valery Mikhailovich Rusinovich. I recommend it to everyone—quick and painless. It was simply superb; all my fears were unnecessary. Highly recommended, Maria.

What tests do I need to undergo to be admitted for surgery to remove a polyp in the rectum? I already have a colonoscopy, but what else is required?

I also had occasional bleeding; I thought it was hemorrhoids, but then I read online that it could be a sign of cancer and rushed to the hospital: they found a polyp. I started reading again: the only solution is removal, but before that, it's essential to check with a colonoscopy if there are any polyps in the large intestine as well. I've done everything now, and surgery is scheduled, but I decided to look for something unconventional. And I found it. On Malakhov's show: enemas with concentrated urine, and as he promises, polyps soon fall off. I'll postpone the surgery to a later date and give it a try: anything is better than being cut open and risking cancer. No harm in trying...

Yesterday I had a polyp removed. Under local anaesthesia. I arrived, lay down on the couch, legs on supports, like on a gynaecological chair. They gave a couple of injections in the perianal area. The pain in that area is much less than, for example, when you get an injection in the gum during dental treatment. It was removed with a Surgitron (radio wave). There was a slight sensation of warmth inside, a bit hot, a bit warmer. The only unpleasant part was when they inserted the speculum, the anoscope, and that metal touched the mucous membrane and sort of stretched it... Everything else was trivial. 15 minutes. I got up, sat for a little while as the doctor recommended, and went home. This morning I woke up. Absolutely no pain or discomfort whatsoever. My polyp stayed at the hospital (they showed me the 1cm piece) along with 8,300 rubles. And now I'm happy and free, and I'll live without it)))

And I was diagnosed with an anal canal polyp and referred for surgery. Currently, my symptoms include discomfort in the anus, a slight itch, and a feeling as if something is in the way. After the polyp removal surgery, do these symptoms go away? Has anyone else experienced this?

I had an anal canal polyp removed by ligation. It was unpleasant, but still not a surgery, and it's not expensive either (up to 100 USD), whereas surgery is more costly. Modern doctors know how to remove it so that you don't have to lie flat for two weeks or faint during bowel movements))) Consult another doctor; it will give you more peace of mind.

Hello everyone! I'll share my story—this Friday, I had a polyp removed at Hospital 24, and it was FREE! To do this, you need to undergo tests such as a full blood count and biochemistry, an abdominal ultrasound, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, a chest X-ray, and blood tests for Rh factor, HIV, and hepatitis. All these tests can also be done for FREE at the clinic, though you'll have to put in some legwork. It took me a month to gather all the tests, and keep in mind, they're only valid for a short time, so once you have them, rush to the hospital! I also want to add that Hospital 24 is the best I've ever seen! The doctors are very knowledgeable, responsive, and experienced. My procedure was painless, the food is good—for example, they served salmon for dinner—and the wards are like those in a sanatorium: two-bed rooms with a fridge, wardrobe, toilet, and shower! The doctors told me that bleeding usually occurs 3–4 days after polyp removal. Today is the third day, and thankfully, everything is fine! Regarding the diet, I was told to avoid vegetables, fruit, and bread for three days, then I can return to my normal eating habits. If you're preparing for a colonoscopy, they'll likely tell you to drink FORTRANS! They prescribe it because it's more expensive. I've had a colonoscopy twice; the first time, I drank LAVACOL—3 litres of solution. I'd recommend that instead—it's nasty, but at least it doesn't make you vomit like FORTRANS! Plus, you have to drink 4 litres of Fortrans, and I couldn't manage more than two before I started vomiting. I warned the doctor before the procedure, so he didn't give me an additional enema. I weigh 54 kg. So, dear readers, everything I've written above is based on my own experience, and I advise everyone to have polyps removed as soon as they're discovered!

A month ago, my husband had two polyps removed from his sigmoid colon. It was done free of charge at the oncology centre on Veterans Avenue. He fasted for three days beforehand, drinking only water.

My daughter is 1.5 years old. For about 4 months, we have occasionally noticed small blood clots in her stool. We consulted a doctor, and polyps were discovered. Could you advise if this is dangerous for my child at such a young age?

I constantly suffered from constipation and incomplete bowel movements, occasionally diarrhea, and there was always a soreness in the stomach area. There were relatives in the family with rectal cancer, so I went for a colonoscopy. During the examination, two polyps were found in the colon and one in the rectum. The doctor suggested removing them immediately, and I agreed, paying 10,500. The polyps were sent for histology, and the results will be available around June 16th. I went straight back to work; in the evening, there was slight pain. Now I'm on a diet, avoiding fried foods, sweets, and pastries. I eat chicken, drink juices, have soup, and also eat a handful of dried apricots and prunes every day. My stool is normal, and that unpleasant soreness in the abdomen has disappeared. We'll see what happens next. It's astonishing how these small growths can cause such discomfort in the intestines.

They told me to have another colonoscopy in a year, and now it's like that every year. They didn't give any special recommendations, only to normalise bowel movements so it becomes a habit to empty the bowels every day at the same time. Diet: eat small, frequent meals and avoid products with various chemical additives and GMOs.

The day before the colonoscopy, I drank a litre of Fortrans in the morning, then another litre in the evening—I couldn't manage any more. Later, before bed, I did an enema with 1.5 litres of water. In the morning, I did three enemas in a row. I wasn't sure if my bowels were completely clean, but it was fine; the doctor examined me properly and everything was clear. He performed it without anaesthesia, and it was extremely painful. If you have the option of anaesthesia, I'd recommend taking it—or maybe our doctor is just particularly harsh, I don't know. I was screaming in pain, but now I don't regret it. Fifteen minutes of agony is worth it to know the truth.

Tell me, if a polyp was discovered about 6 years ago. The woman is now 62 years old (currently), and of course, there are issues with bowel movements and abdominal pain (it gets better when she takes Tremidat). Can the polyp be removed now (I couldn't persuade her before—what a bad daughter I am), and what are the consequences? Thank you.

Today, I had a polyp removed. It was discovered during a colonoscopy. Don’t be afraid—it’s better to remove it early, before more serious problems arise, which is entirely possible. It’s absolutely painless, just a bit uncomfortable, and overall tolerable. After the procedure, I was allowed to go home in 2–3 hours. I even drove myself home. That’s all!!! Wishing everyone good luck!

This is done painlessly, through the rectum. Using an endoscope, a loop is placed over the polyp and tightened like a noose, then the polyp is detached, and that's it. You can go home and back to work. The bleeding stops, and that's all. You can eat after two hours.

Just got back from the proctologist. A private clinic, 18,000 rubles for removal and treatment of fissures. They provided all the ointments and pills. It's been two hours since the "operation," and I feel fine. The doctor said it might hurt for two days. Everything was done using a new technology with radio waves and something else. The procedure itself took 10-15 minutes.

The colonoscopy was performed on 28 July. It was done under sedation (while asleep). I remember the anaesthetist asking if I had any allergic reactions to sleeping medication, and I said no. Then the anaesthetist (already in another room for some reason) handed me my clothes and suggested I get dressed. I cannot say where I was for about 45 minutes, but that is when the diagnostic examination took place. A polyp measuring 6 mm was found 10 cm from the anus and was completely removed. Unfortunately, no one gave me any dietary recommendations afterwards—the doctors themselves, after handing me the report, immediately went for lunch.
