It's nice to speak English here (not there).I could tell you about me.I have learned English for 4 years then I stopped and now I am learning French.It's no picnic.I'm so tired from this language.I can say,I hate it.This is why my knowledge is very poor in English and in French also.I'm crazy.Sorry

I was trying to contact an american web-site. What I am interested in is their shipping & handling policy. Has anyone bought anything from Northern America?How do you calculate the cost of delivery to Russia? I contacted this on-line store and the only info I got from them was regarding the cost of shipping to Russia. What does it mean?Does the price include delivery only to Russia and then what (what would happen after that)? Some added payment inside Russia? I really don't understand (I am very confused).

No,the problem is not to understand, but to be understood - to understand rightly is not to speak rightly.As in case with Slavic languages - the Russian people can understand the Bulgarian language , for instance, but in many cases when they begin to answer in Russian , their Bulgarian interlocutor will have the problems with understanding.Because Bulgarian language has got the same words , as Russian , the different grammar.Actially, I understand that my English is not good, and I know that it will never reach the level of the native speakers language.So , I study only the Slavic ones and try to approach their knowledge to the advanced level.

what for? I mean why do you study them? are there any practical reasons behind? coz otherwise I guess it's pretty useless. I've come to conclude that language skills tend to deteriorate and die without regular usage. Btw, your enflish is not at all that bad. And there is definitely more than one way to achieve a fluency of a native speaker in English, just takes time and effort

Of course, the reason exists. Try to speak Russian in Poland or Croatia, or even Bulgaria. English is just like the working language for me. I will never think like an Englishman does.Another problem with our languages is that understanding all of them You will never speak one particular language rightly -at any rate there will be a mix of them.

i think you are being too meticulous about languages. clearly it's very unlikely you become the next Shakespear (who needs it anyway), but "thinking as an englishman" is quite feasible, I'm sure. As I said, just a matter of your motivation and effort. Besides, if you really need to speak and think like natives, you should live among them (otherwise I see no point in such a perfectionism, unless you are a secret agent or smth :) Well, I, for one, feel quite satisfied just with the fluency to comminucate and express myself on a decent level. I have all my life to improve the rest (just like with my mother tongue, btw). I mean such nuances as speacial terms, fixed phrases, proverbs and other cultural stuff, slang, accents, dialects, etc.

oh. and...btw, i didn't quite get your reasons :) you have a lot of slavic friends who don't speak english? and you are learning for their sake? you must be a really good friend than :) shame on me, but all of my foreign friends speak only english with me(from Tokyo to Montreal (the latter is normally french-speaking)

No, all my Slavic friends know English even better than me.I'm an Ukrainian, and the problem is that Russian has gone from the others Slavic languages too far as in lexics so in grammar.For the Ukrainians there is a less problem to understand the person from another Slavic country, as for the Russians, and the quantity of European Slavics is equal to Russian - speaking ones.And the Slavic people from Europe decide automaticly that there is no problem if they would speak with UA - people their own language.And they are right actually.There is a possibility to make Russian as international language for all Slavics, but I think it is impossible, because there is no interchanges between Slavic cultures at the present time. The Romanic World tries to create their own linguistical Community, You can see it on the example of the Italians, Spaniards, people from Portugal and Brasil ( so called Luso - speakers ).As usual, many of them do not know English at all prefering to communicate Spanish or Italian.
