I had a really bad cold, my nose was completely blocked. In such cases, only vasoconstrictor drops help me. But now I'm pregnant. I held out as long as I could, but not being able to breathe at all is just impossible, you understand. I used Nazivin for 4 days, no more than 2-3 times a day. Only then did I start feeling human again. But I've heard that vasoconstrictor drops are harmful for the baby. But isn't it harmful for mum not to breathe? That I'm lacking oxygen, and so is the baby. Who has used drops during pregnancy? Was everything alright with you and your babies?
Use moisturising drops and pinosol. The effect won't be very strong, but it will still be more pleasant. This is because you can become dependent on decongestant drops, and later it will be difficult without them, regardless of pregnancy.

My ENT specialist has allowed me to use Nasonex 3-4 sprays a day.

My doctor advised me to use Snoop in critical situations; it's both a decongestant and a treatment, so give it a try. Another quite good option is Nazol Baby, also a decongestant but for children from 1 year old and therefore milder than adult versions, but it definitely has an effect, especially at night!
Now, about the contraindications: they write these because there haven't been sufficient studies, so they include them to protect themselves in case something happens. I read in a pregnancy magazine that decongestants can raise blood pressure, which is why they're risky (besides the risk of dependency). So, if you have a tendency towards high blood pressure, it's best not to use them.
Nothing but Grippferon is allowed. That's what my doctor told me. The chances are fifty-fifty. It's better not to risk it, really.

You can use Pinosol, but it's not advisable to use Sanorin.

During my pregnancy, I had a runny nose several times. I couldn't breathe at all, especially at night. The gynaecologist allowed me to use decongestants, just not too frequently. You certainly won't get addicted to them in just 3-4 days. As for Pinosol and Grippferon, they don't relieve the swelling at all.
I used the drops early on, and a miscarriage occurred. Whether the drops played a decisive role is unknown, but I will not use the drops again during my next pregnancy.

Veronica, I'm also pregnant and have the same issue. The doctor prescribed Pinosol (I live in the Czech Republic), not sure what they prescribe elsewhere. Then try rinsing your nose with water and sea salt or chamomile infusion, just rinsing, not instilling. Alternatively, during pregnancy, you can use the skin from 2-3 onions (only the outer layer), wash it, cover with a small amount of water, bring to a boil, and simmer until the liquid turns a rich orange colour. Instil the cooled liquid into your nose as often as you can, but use it for no more than 3 days. Good luck!

I wasn't allowed to use nasal drops. In the end, I endured the runny nose (my nose was very blocked). I put up with it for a week and everything was fine.
By the way, girls, acupressure is really good for a runny nose. It clears it up in just 3 minutes, though it only lasts for about 3-4 hours. But if you're struggling to sleep because of a blocked nose, it's perfect. Here's the diagram; only the top two points on the first illustration match, but the bottom one doesn't. I was taught to massage the earlobes. http://www.medmas.ru/9_kitaiskii/9_13.htm

Buy Rinaldix, these are homeopathic drops that quickly cure a runny nose and are safe for pregnant women.
Actually, there are doctors who should be consulted in such situations.
AquaMaris was quite sufficient for me. Harmless water. You can rinse your nose with a saline solution.
And it might be harmful or it might not... It could be, or it might not be. There's a reason they're banned for pregnant women. It's strange that you went ahead and did it (even though you knew you shouldn't) and are now asking.

Alice, why don't you try an experiment: stick two corks up your nose and see how long your patience lasts walking around like that. Believe me, when you're short of oxygen, you won't have the strength to wait for a doctor's appointment. It's just that you've probably never been in such a situation. Consider yourself lucky.

Veronica, as I understand, you've already recovered from your cold? Then don't waste any time and start with prevention! Use Aqua Maris a couple of times a day, or buy a Dolphin and rinse your nose morning and evening—it'll reduce the chance of getting sick again. As for those who recommend Aqua Maris and applying a hot egg DURING a cold, they probably haven't suffered that much; I genuinely wanted to just lie down and die, but vasoconstrictors saved me :))

I've been using baby Tizin for 17 weeks now and I'm really scared of the consequences. I don't know what to do, but enduring this isn't good either – it's torture for a pregnant woman. I've been to the ENT specialist twice, and they prescribed one remedy that didn't help at all. Please help me get better or reassure me about the drops. And if the drops have already had an effect, how would that show up? All my tests are fine, the doctors say.

I used Naphthyzine for about 8 years before getting pregnant and then switched to children's Otrivin, one spray at night, otherwise I can't sleep and feel like I'm suffocating. My test results are normal so far. I'm worried myself / we're at 15 weeks.

During my first pregnancy (nine years ago), from 28 weeks onwards, I used Nazivin right up until delivery, as prescribed by the doctor. There was no runny nose, just nasal congestion, especially when lying down, and there were no consequences—everything was perfectly fine. Now I'm using Nazivin again, facing the same issue: since 27 weeks, my nose is blocked without a runny nose, making it impossible to breathe! For a runny nose, a good remedy is cotton swabs dipped in honey, placed in each nostril alternately for about 20 minutes, 3-4 times a day!

I recommend PALM OIL to everyone: put three drops in your nose twice a day, two hours before bedtime. This oil is packed with vitamins, though it's not available in every pharmacy and it's quite pricey. It helps me with both my runny nose and my dependency on nasal drops, and it can benefit everyone.

I've been using nasal drops for many years due to a deviated nasal bone. During my first pregnancy, I used them and everything was fine. Now I'm using them again. They're discouraged because they can raise blood pressure, but I simply can't cope without them.
At 26 weeks, I have a terrible runny nose and can't breathe through it. I've tried everything—menthol and other balms, as well as home remedies, but I can't tolerate them. At night, I use children's drops, alternating between xylometazoline or galazolin, and nothing else helps. I don't know how this will affect the baby. The doctors say such pregnancies happen. I deeply sympathize with others in the same situation!

How I understand you, girls! This problem started at 29 weeks. I would jump up at night like a madwoman and pace around the flat, terrified of suffocating. My nose was completely blocked! The doctor only allowed me to use children's drops in case of acute necessity, but I can't fall asleep without them! So I've been using them every night for three weeks now... I pray to God that the little one won't be harmed, but I just don't have the strength to suffocate every night! To all expectant mums, patience and, most importantly, a healthy baby!

And I have no idea what's going on with my nose: is it an allergy to dogs or is it related to pregnancy?? I'm walking around breathless, I can't live without drops!! One spray and I'm fine all day, but by bedtime it's blocked again, as if I've just caught a cold, but I'm not sick at all!! I'm 10 weeks pregnant and also worried about the baby—this is my third pregnancy, the first two were unsuccessful!! I'm really afraid to use drops, but I've read that TIZINE is safe to use!!

I don't have a runny nose, just a dry congestion, and only Xylometazoline helps. It's safe for pregnant women, and the therapist also prescribes children's medications to avoid harming the little one.
Instead of drops, you could take Sinupret. It has the same effect as the drops. But first, you should consult a doctor.

It's normal for pregnant women to have swollen mucous membranes, as my ENT and gynaecologist told me. I need to use drops but not overdo it... especially if my nose is completely blocked because it affects how well the blood is oxygenated... I use Sanorin, as rinsing doesn't help me... I'm 7 weeks pregnant and don't know what will happen next!

... and there are also runny noses of various origins: viral, inflammatory, allergic, or as is often the case with pregnant women, swelling due to hormonal changes... THE MAIN THING IS TO MAKE THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS! Then you'll sort it out from there.

Pregnancy at 12 weeks, I've been short of breath for 3 weeks. I've seen an ENT and allergists who prescribed Nasonex and Derinat, but nothing helps. I don't use drops during the day, but at night I use children's Nazivin. I'm afraid of getting addicted to it, and I still have allergic rhinitis ahead. Can anyone suggest what to do?????

The ENT will say it's pregnancy rhinitis. Homeopathic prescriptions helped me. Consult a classical homeopath, or as a last resort, go to the Homeopathic Centre on Vladimirovskaya. They relieved my swelling in the first trimester.

I'm suffering terribly too... Before pregnancy, I used drops constantly because I couldn't manage without them at all =( Now, naturally, my nose gets blocked without a runny nose, and only vasoconstrictors help =(((( I'm really worried about this, but I don't know what to do... Everyone says it's not allowed, but no one knows what to do either... It's like a vicious circle =((( The ENT only prescribed Aquamaris Strong - it's as useful as milking a billy goat, I'm suffocating... Now my throat hurts from breathing through my mouth =( I don't see any good in this.... Anyway, we're at 12 weeks, and I don't know what to do. The gynaecologist seemed to allow using children's drops, but with all these strict prohibitions, I'm incredibly worried about the little one =(((((

Oh girls, I completely understand you all. I'm 15 weeks pregnant and have to use nasal drops at night and once during the day because it's simply impossible to live otherwise. I tried to endure it and ended up catching a cold, my throat started hurting, and the headaches became terrible, so I started using the drops again. I'm incredibly worried about the baby, but I don't know what to do; the doctors' prescriptions and advice aren't helping. And if anyone has already given birth and used drops, please write to us sufferers.

The same old story, from the first week my nose is completely blocked, plus there's constantly running mucus. I'm always carrying tissues around; breathing through the mouth is impossible. I used Galazolin drops, and now I've switched to Xylen. I try not to use them more than three times a day. At the consultation, they told me to endure it. Easy for them to say when they haven't experienced it themselves. They also mentioned that breathing through the mouth is worse than through the nose because the air isn't warmed or cleaned as it should be. And if I have to choose between drops and suffocation, the drops are the lesser evil. I don't know what lies ahead, of course, but I'm hoping for the best. If it pleases the Lord, our little ones will be healthy :-)

I completely understand you!!!! I'm currently dying from lack of oxygen myself; my nose hasn't been breathing for two days, my mouth is constantly dry, and it's just unbearable now. I'm also thinking of using a spray like Snup or Otrivin.... I won't be able to sleep tonight without being able to breathe:(
You know, if I hadn't come here, I wouldn't have known how many people worry about nasal drops. I'm an allergy sufferer and have always used drops. I'm 23 weeks pregnant, my nose often gets blocked, and my allergist prescribed Nasonex for two weeks and Aqua Maris, which doesn't help at all. If you're not aware, look up Nasonex—it says something about later needing to check the baby's kidneys, and you're talking about Snup. I use it often because antihistamine medications like Nasonex aren't recommended for more than two weeks, but what am I supposed to do if my allergies flare up again? Bloody wormwood everywhere. Well, I'm thinking of trying the children's version of Snup or Xylometazoline. And here's some advice: don't dwell on the negative, read less of that nasty stuff, mums should be comfortable during pregnancy too. So, happiness to you, girls, and health to your little ones!!!

Regarding the advice to rinse with egg whites, salt works significantly better, tested on myself))
As for the nasal spray... it's written in the instructions, and doctors say it can be used for a long time, six months precisely... but I find it strange that it's prescribed to pregnant women, as it's a hormonal medication... I was prescribed it as part of a comprehensive treatment for vasomotor rhinitis caused by a deviated nasal septum.
Regarding the decongestant drops... I've been using them for about 12 years now because of this same vasomotor rhinitis. When I don't use them, due to nasal congestion, my head hurts a lot, and with a blocked nose, I simply can't function. Currently, I'm about 6-7 weeks pregnant and trying to switch to children's drops, but everything got complicated with a cold... I'm using them quite frequently, about 4-5 times a day... I'm planning to see an ENT specialist tomorrow, but I'm afraid they'll start recommending saline solutions and pinosol, which, as for many here, don't help me..

So you probably need to take some Zyrtec, and treat the cold as well. Actually, my doctor says that if your nose is really blocked, it's better to use Snup than to endure it, because it's not very good for the baby either if the mother is unwell.

Hello everyone. I've been using nasal drops since I was 13, starting with Galazolin and now Naphthyzin. I want to mention that I went through two pregnancies while using these drops, without any complications or negative effects. My children are now 13 and 10 years old; the only concern is that they also have constant issues with nasal breathing, but given our environment and frequent colds, that's not surprising. Additionally, many ENT specialists say that old-fashioned and simple Naphthyzin causes much less harm than trendy sprays like Snoop, Otrivin, and Tizin, as they are relatively new and not well-studied yet. You can read more about this online if you're interested. There are also good drops like Noxspray, with the active ingredient oxymetazoline, the same as in Nazivin, which can even be used for newborns from their first days. Of course, there's a risk of becoming dependent on drops, but if used wisely and with breaks of a few days, I think pregnancy can be easier to manage.

I've had nose problems since school, and during my second pregnancy, I couldn't breathe at all. I used whatever drops I could get my hands on (even naphthyzine), and in the ninth month, I found out that you shouldn't use them at all...
It all went away on its own after giving birth. By the way, I was pouring in those last-resort vasoconstrictor litres during labour. Yes, it's not allowed. And I'm in no way advising anyone to follow my example. My confession is for those who have already used the drops and are worried about what will happen. Relax)) and go seek advice from a doctor.

During pregnancy, various situations can arise. Sometimes, the nose gets so blocked that drops become necessary. A mother who can't breathe isn't good for the baby either. So, one has to choose the lesser of two evils. Yes, drops are not ideal. But if you rinse your nose with something like Aqualor before using them, then apply children's drops instead of adult ones, and limit it to once or twice a day for no more than three days, I don't think you'll cause much harm to the baby. However... this should only be in exceptional cases; otherwise, it's better to stick to rinses alone.
