Unfortunately, osteoarthritis cannot be cured; it can only be slowed down temporarily. Do you have osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, or shoulder? And what stage is it at?

Does anyone know, could you please advise? My husband has arthritis in his feet. The surgeon prescribed chondroitin + glucosamine. He had an X-ray, the doctor looked at it and said, "Probably will have to amputate, we'll decide after I see the test results." We have an appointment tomorrow. But today, his foot has swollen so much, it's three times larger than a normal foot. It was already swollen, but today it's scary to look at, it's even bigger. My husband is lying down, not walking, completely weak. Is there anything we can do now to reduce the swelling at least a little?

Regarding glucosamine-chondroitin, I want to say that many doctors (both those I've visited and Malysheva on her TV show) claim it doesn't produce any noticeable results. That is, the effectiveness of this supplement isn't supported by clinical trials. It's a kind of placebo.
I personally took it. But my pain was so severe I'd have drunk snake venom if it promised relief.
+ Ate plenty of aspic and jellies - Gnawed on boiled chicken feet (horrendous!) - Reduced salt intake - Cut out ready-made sauces, sausages, and canned goods - Lost weight - Attended physiotherapy sessions - Rubbed various ointments into my knees
As a result, I got back on my feet and can even walk now.

Guest 3: For me, a compress with Dimexide worked well for pain relief. And therapeutic clay, like bischofite, also helps (though not as quickly). It's actually very effective for joints, but the effect is cumulative.

Thank you! I'll buy Dimexide and bischofite tomorrow. I read your posts to my husband, and he says not to buy anything yet—he's afraid they might say tomorrow that it needs to be amputated. The surgeon also said that the joints are severely damaged.

How dreadful, I hadn't heard that osteoarthritis could lead to such consequences. Stay strong. Give your husband some pain relief. Glucosamine needs to be taken for several months to be of any help. In your case, it really isn't worth buying it for now.
Thank you, I'm giving him Ketonal injections. He also has diabetes; there were trophic ulcers on that foot, the ulcers were treated, and then osteoarthritis started. And the main thing is they won't admit him to the hospital, the treatment is of no use, and he's taken antibiotics. No effect at all. It's getting worse every day. A neighbour came by, looked at him, and said—they put people in coffins looking better. Tomorrow the doctor will review his tests, maybe he'll say something more specific. I suspect he has something else, maybe gangrene has started...

Take Artru (or equivalent) for 6 months, then take a 3-month break, then resume the course. Start by taking 3 tablets (instead of the recommended dose in the instructions, as it's too low) for about a month, then reduce to 2, and later to 1. For the topical application, mix Dimexide with hydrocortisone (I diluted Dimexide 1:1 and added an ampoule of hydrocortisone), apply it all to gauze or a sterile bandage, place it on the affected area, wrap it in cling film, and leave it for 1 hour. Repeat this for 10 days. For physiotherapy: use magnets, laser, cryotherapy, or ultrasound—choose at least one method and continue for 10 days.

Unfortunately, a complete cure isn't possible, but the condition can be managed. However, by losing excess weight, eating well, doing physical therapy, and taking medications like Mucostat, one can live a perfectly normal life.

What can I say: don't waste your time on chondroprotectors. I spent a year using gels and tablets hoping for improvement - but there was no result. Then I went to another doctor, and he prescribed me Viscoplus. The medication isn't cheap, but at least it actually works.

Didn't understand the question 😅 They're injections with hyaluronic acid, injected into the joints. I was prescribed 4 injections over a month, then a year's break. But it all depends on what the doctor prescribes. I had mine injected in May, the last time, and now I feel excellent, no pain at all.

If I understood correctly, it's actually impossible to get completely rid of it. You need to be under a doctor's observation, they'll monitor the changes, and if anything comes up they'll prescribe another course.

I can't help but agree! Chondroprotectants work really well for me too, especially when combined with physical therapy. I've heard about Mucosat but haven't tried it myself; my doctor says it's genuinely good, but it seems to me it's priced too low...

I also take Mukosat, an excellent chondroprotector that really helps. I've had an osteoarthritis diagnosis for a long time and had to try many things. And to this day, it's the best option. Since Soviet times, I still can't find anything better.

Of all the treatment options, hyaluronic acid injections work best for me. Do read up on this method—it's very effective. It's a shame you can't insert photos here, but if you search for "hyaluronic acid injections into the joint" online, you'll find plenty of images showing how they affect the joint and what the essence of their action is.
I get injections with Viscoplus. Only three injections a year are needed; I complete the course and live comfortably all year. The only additional measures are controlling my diet and weight, and of course, physical exertion is limited. Yes, the treatment was prescribed for me after an MRI. I'd advise against taking any action before getting tests and an MRI done, as it's important to understand the condition of the joints and the degree of osteoarthritis. The number of injections depends on that, after all. I have grade 2 osteoarthritis, and thanks to the injections, it hasn't progressed for four years now!

A comprehensive approach is crucial when it comes to treating joint issues. I take Mucosat in courses, follow a diet, and generally, if I need to train, I wear supports. I feel quite alright, actually.

Rory, that's the very merit of Mukosat, in my opinion – it's inexpensive. It's just been around since Soviet times, the packaging is plain, and they haven't invested millions in advertising. But the composition is excellent and it works superbly!

I also took chondroprotectors and gelatin from sachets. But from my experience, I can say that on their own they won't cure anything; you need to address the root cause. In my case, it was a mediopatellar plica, a particular developmental feature of the knee joint. Until about the age of 30, they are quite flexible, but after that, they become tougher and start to injure the kneecap during movement, leading to the development of arthritis. Of course, you can't restore damaged cartilage, but in the early stages, during surgery, they smooth out the affected areas, and subsequently, the joint moves easily. You can enhance the effect of the surgery with hyaluronic acid injections, which provide extra lubrication. Personally, I didn't have the injections because I recovered well without them. I bought a syringe of Fermathron Plus before the operation, but now I think I definitely won't need it, so if anyone in Moscow needs it, I can give it away for less than the pharmacy price. Write to nata_krug@bk.ru.
The stage of osteoarthritis greatly influences many aspects. Generally, it's better not to start treatment without a doctor's advice; who knows how such self-medication might end. But from experience, I can say that for almost ANY treatment, a local approach is optimal. This method results in fewer side effects and more effective treatment. This isn't my own invention but the words of my doctor. I'm just passing on what I've learned, as they say. Specifically regarding osteoarthritis, personally, injections work best for me. And they were prescribed by my doctor; I didn't come up with the idea of treating myself with them on my own.
What kind of injections? With osteoarthritis, I know that tablets and ointments are mainly prescribed to everyone. At least, that's exactly how my mother-in-law is being treated. They help every other time, of course, but nevertheless, they do reduce the pain a bit.
If you're talking about my injections, I'm getting ViscoPlus, with hyaluronic acid. Actually, there are many drugs with similar effects, but there are also many differences between them... both in the number of injections, and in the duration of action, and in effectiveness... As in everything, really.

Interesting, I need to read up and ask my mother-in-law, see if they offered her injections or not. So they're better than tablets, it turns out?
I get 3 injections. They last for a year. It depends on the condition of the joint. I know that with ViscoPlus they don't do more than 4 injections per course, as 3-4 injections are more than enough.
As you have already been told, it cannot be completely cured, but it is possible to slow down the progression of the disease and alleviate the condition. One option is to seek help at a rehabilitation centre, for instance, at the "Blagopoluchiye" medical centre in Monino (which is in the Moscow region). They do accept patients with osteoarthritis, and it's quite good there, as they provide comprehensive, tailored treatment.

Of course, osteoarthritis cannot be cured outright. However, courses of Mucostat do an excellent job of slowing down joint deterioration and, in my personal experience, they effectively relieve pain. It makes a significant difference.

I also find mucosat very beneficial, the one from synthesis. Of course, one must remember both diet and proper exercise. But after a course of mucosat, I feel noticeably better.

Osteoarthritis is completely treatable! Modern medicine certainly isn't standing still -) I maintain quite an active lifestyle: yoga and running in the mornings and evenings. After the initial joint pains, my doctor prescribed arthrotherapy, and now my joint is perfectly fine.

I have had osteoarthritis in my knees for a long time, but it started seriously bothering me two years ago. I consulted a good orthopaedist, who immediately suggested joint replacement surgery. He said there is no treatment. However, a neurologist friend of mine advised me to take chondroprotectors—tablets containing chondroitin and glucosamine. I bought various brands because I know there are many counterfeits. I took one in the morning and another in the evening for five months without interruption. I felt relief after two to three months. My joy was boundless. But I didn’t know that I should have repeated the course after three months and taken them for another three months. In short, chondroprotectors should be taken twice a year for three months each time. In July, it got bad again. I went straight to the doctor, and without even looking at the scan, he said, "Only surgery." I told him that the tablets had helped me two years ago, but he didn’t believe me. Once again, I made the decision myself to take chondroprotectors. Following advice from forum users, I started with the supplement Animal Flex (which is sports nutrition), but it made things worse. I realised that supplements are not treatment. I will take medications like Artra or Teraflex instead. I am doing Dr. Evdokimenko’s exercises and continue to believe that osteoarthritis can be treated without surgery. I advise everyone not to neglect their condition, take chondroprotectors twice a year, and visit sanatoriums.

I would like to add to the above that there is a doctor named V.D. Gitt. He rejects the use of medication for treating arthrosis and recommends only micro-movements. I haven't tried these movements myself; if anyone has done them, please share your results. Wishing everyone good health!

You're right, supplements aren't treatment. Try Dona, it's a really effective chondroprotector, I've been taking it myself for several years now. It absorbs well, and in sachet form it's very convenient to take once a day.
I read and understand that many people are suffering. It's a pity that medicine doesn't treat arthrosis, although there is a way to cure it.

Victoria, thank you so much for the advice! Arthrosis really is treatable (though I'd only heard the opposite before you), we had arthrotherapy done at Yuri Konstantinovich Glazkov's clinic.

A nurse simply came to our home to give my mum injections. We bought the medication ourselves; it's called ViscoPlus. Honestly, it's a fantastic thing – Mum is walking and even squatting, whereas before she had trouble even standing up. And even if it were administered at a clinic, I would insist on buying the medication ourselves. Because if the drug contains animal proteins, it could cause an allergy. ViscoPlus doesn't have any animal-derived proteins. Also, since there are many counterfeits, I'd recommend buying only from trusted places and asking for a certificate of conformity, as who knows how hospitals handle their purchases.

Hello! How many years have you been suffering from this illness? I just got this diagnosis yesterday. Don't know if they diagnosed it correctly of course. My pain is wandering and in the bones not just in the joints and in the muscles. But not severe. Hurts here for a bit, then there for a bit.

My older sister has osteoarthritis in her knee. She was prescribed Salvisar ointment. It contains natural ingredients. She likes it. She says it doesn't burn or cause allergies.

I'll share my unpleasant experience; the doctor prescribed me to have injections of Fermathron into the joint. Foolishly, I trusted the doctor, followed his advice, and had several injections. Of course, I didn't do it myself; the doctor administered them. But I wasn't getting any better. I was browsing the internet and came across a video where another doctor explains the actual composition of this product. I was horrified. Now I understand why it didn't help me. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

I hope whoever visits this forum will be sure to read my comment. Or perhaps the girl will receive a notification if she still suffers from an issue like osteoarthritis. My father also endured it in his time, tried all sorts of remedies, and eventually gave Salvisar ointment a go. It's been over a year now, and what a relief that the agonising pain is no more.

I can recommend Salvisar ointment for osteoarthritis. The ointment quickly relieves pain, relaxes, and gently warms the area. It was the only thing that helped me.

There is no cure, but the deterioration can be halted. I inject Viscoplus, and since it's a substitute for synovial fluid, my joint no longer deteriorates. Well, I suppose it still does a bit, as the disease persists. Nevertheless, the degradation has been slowed down. And all these years, I've been living a normal life. Nothing hurts.
There's no way to completely cure it. You can only slow down the joint deterioration. And even then, ointments and tablets won't help; they'll just ruin your stomach. The most normal and effective treatment is through injections. I've been injecting Viscoplus into my arthritic joint for several years now, and it helps very well.
