Kailina intrauterine device

Good afternoon, girls! Please tell me, has anyone had the Kailina IUD inserted? My gynecologist recommended it, but there are almost no reviews.

I've had it since March. At first, my periods seemed heavier, but the doctor said that's normal and will pass soon. And by the way, yes, now my periods have become shorter than before and are not heavy. Insertion wasn't painful; I hardly felt it. What I'm most happy about is not having to think about pills every day! I used to forget, then worry for half a month about whether I might be pregnant. The anxiety made me not want sex. My husband would get annoyed. But now everyone is happy. Anytime, anywhere! 😀

Hello, can you tell me if you had any headaches? I recently got it inserted (09/15/22) and have had a terrible headache for three days now. I usually don't suffer from headaches. Now I'm wondering if it's the IUD's fault or just a coincidence.

I also encountered this issue—there are absolutely no reviews online. But I trusted the doctor. She said it's like Mirena, just with a lower hormone dosage (like a "daughter" of Mirena).

Good afternoon. No, I didn't have any headaches. In terms of how I feel, it actually got better. My hemoglobin increased even though I came back to life.

I got it inserted. It's been 3 weeks. Seems like no side effects but there's spotting almost constantly

I've had it for 2 months.

On the plus side: Of course, it's very convenient. I'm absolutely against a second pregnancy in the next 5 years, so I wanted to protect myself. My fears about pregnancy completely killed my libido. Condoms are tiresome, and withdrawal isn't for me. My gynecologist also recommended Kyleena.

On the minus side: It suppresses endometrial growth (my gynecologist reassured me that everything will recover once it's removed); my cycle got disrupted, I had spotting for 1.5 months, bacterial vaginosis developed due to the discharge (blood is an excellent environment for bacterial growth), swelling appeared, and I gained +1 kg (despite regularly exercising, following a low-carb diet, etc.).

Overall, my doctors (gynecologist and endocrinologist) and I decided to wait and see. The adaptation period is typically considered to be up to 6 months, and the main side effects tend to appear during this time. If it causes significant general discomfort, I'll have it removed. Because aside from the convenience of contraception, I don't really see any other major benefits.

Good afternoon. The spotting will last until your first period after insertion. After that, it'll all go away. I'm on my 3rd month, and everything's good. I also spent a long time looking for reviews but couldn't find any. I got it at my own risk. Haven't found any downsides.

Hi everyone! I got Kyleena inserted in June.
After a long period of taking the pill and experiencing a lack of libido, I decided this was the best choice, especially since I already have two children.
The insertion took about 5 minutes, and it felt like a normal period.
I had light spotting for about three months afterward, but it was very minimal and didn’t affect my life at all. I was prepared for it because my doctor warned me it was normal.
I haven’t found any downsides at all! Yes, the price isn’t low, but it only seems that way at first. If you calculate how much pills cost every month, Kyleena is much more cost-effective—it’s like getting four years for free!)))
The pros: no pain before my period, everything is perfectly on schedule, the flow is lighter, and it ends faster. No breast tenderness, no cramping or aching. I haven’t gained any weight—I even found studies showing Kyleena doesn’t affect weight. Some people even lose weight.
Plus, I don’t have to remember to take a pill every day or worry if I missed one. Here, nothing depends on me anymore, and it really makes life and nerves easier))
Overall, for me, it’s simply the best! And if before I was hesitant and didn’t want an IUD, now I’d only choose an IUD))))
Don’t be afraid! It’s definitely better than abortions.

Hello, yesterday I had it inserted on the strong recommendation of the doctor. Before this, I had two Multiload and one Goldlily. Inserting the Kalina wasn't too painful, but I took a strong painkiller before the procedure. I also haven't seen any reviews, but I trusted the doctor because with my previous IUD, my periods became too heavy and long—I wore it for 6.5 years. The doctor said it's like Mirena, only cheaper. I bought it yesterday for 9,500 plus 2,400 for the insertion.

I had an IUD inserted in November. So far, I haven't noticed any positive aspects. I had never had an IUD before and haven't given birth, which might be why the insertion was extremely painful. The first three days were basically a write-off—I was relying on Spasmalgon. Throughout the entire month, I experienced spotting, breast tenderness, headaches, constant fatigue, pulling pains in the lower abdomen, and a complete lack of libido. My first period after the insertion started, and the severe pain returned—so much so that it's impossible to get through the day without painkillers. The flow also became much heavier compared to my periods before the IUD.

I had an ultrasound to check if the IUD had shifted, but it's still in place. They say the adjustment period is 2–3 months, but I doubt I can endure this for that long.

I had it inserted on December 6th, during my period. The insertion was uncomfortable, but it was okay. Before this, I’ve had two childbirths and tried various contraceptive methods, including regular IUDs. With regular IUDs (once a copper one after the first birth, and the second time a silver Juno after the second), I experienced very long periods and constant spotting in between. I removed the first IUD after a year because a routine ultrasound showed it had shifted. Thank God, I didn’t get pregnant then. It was removed. I removed the second IUD after 1.5 years because the constant spotting was interfering with my life. Between the first and second pregnancies, I used hormonal pills (Mediana). They worked great for me, but sometimes I forgot to take them and would stress afterward, waiting for my period. Fertility returned quickly after stopping the hormones.

We’re not planning a third child, so I decided to try a hormonal IUD. My gynecologist recommended Kyleena. It turned out to be much cheaper than Mirena, with the same effect. I bought it for 10,800 rubles. It’s been in for just over two weeks now. There’s some spotting. I’m mostly worried about it shifting, so the money doesn’t go "down the drain")))) and, of course, about an unplanned pregnancy too. I have an ultrasound scheduled in a month. And God willing, my cycle will regulate itself🙏

Hello! In August, I had the Kyleena IUD inserted to treat endometriosis because the pain was very severe, as recommended by my gynecologist. The procedure itself was bearable, but afterward, everything inside hurt a lot, with pain radiating to the rectum. I went for an ultrasound, and the IUD was in place; it turned out that my intestines had become inflamed, though I'm not sure why. Everything was quite painful for a while. After treating the intestinal issue, the pain went away. I had spotting for two months, but after my periods, there's been no pain at all, which I'm very happy about. I don't regret getting it at all. There weren't any significant side effects, and it's better than taking birth control pills.

I had the IUD inserted in March '22. The insertion was painless, and I only bled for a day afterward with no pain. The downside is the prolonged spotting—it sometimes stops but then starts again. For now, I'm monitoring it with my doctor since I'm still breastfeeding. Overall, it's not bad, but the long-lasting spotting is exhausting.

I had it inserted in July '22, and it didn't suit me. I often have a pulling pain in my lower abdomen, sometimes even radiating down to my legs. There's heavy discharge, and for the first two months, there was spotting. I'm going to have it removed.

Good afternoon! I've had mine since August too, this cycle there wasn't really a period, just a little spotting, but it was right on schedule. I did ovulate. Actually, the instructions say that periods will disappear over time. The mechanism of action is to prevent the endometrium from thickening.

I didn't gain weight on it, but as soon as I start eating poorly, of course it sticks. But it definitely doesn't cause swelling. It can contribute to insulin resistance, so nutrition should be proper.

Good afternoon! I've read... that IUDs shouldn't be inserted in women who haven't given birth! That's why you're having pain and discomfort. Change your gynecologist and get this IUD removed.

Hello. I had the Kyleena inserted on the last day of my period, December 8th. For about a month, there was daily spotting, sometimes turning into a period. By the end of the second month, it seemed to settle down, and I started to distinguish between my period and spotting. But! My breasts have become very bothersome, especially the right one. When I'm at rest, like when I turn from side to side at night, there's a strong, burning, sharp pain in my breast. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Hello, I had something like that when I switched pills from Mediana to Yaz, my breasts also started hurting like yours, I went for a breast ultrasound and to a mammologist, turned out to be mastopathy 🤷 apparently the hormone change somehow triggered it

Good afternoon! I had an IUD inserted in March 2022. After some time, my hair started falling out severely... I thought I would end up completely bald (I didn't even consider the hormone levonorgestrel in the IUD as a cause). In December 2022, I had an ectopic pregnancy and had my fallopian tube removed. The IUD was, of course, removed immediately. On the third day after the IUD removal, my hair stopped falling out. The obstetrician-gynecologist-surgeon said that this was the third case in her practice where someone reported hair loss associated with the Kyleena LNG IUD. And I don't know if it's related to this IUD or not, but I was diagnosed with stage 1 endometriosis via ultrasound...
Everyone's body is different... Draw your own conclusions.

For those with thyroid issues (hypothyroidism in this case), I do not recommend it!! It's been 2 months since I inserted it, and I sometimes experience a pre-fainting state. I tested my TSH, and it significantly increased! I'm waiting for my period and will remove it immediately!

You're having a hormonal side effect in the form of migraines. I suffered like that for about 15 years from birth control pills. Not a single doctor could figure out why I had such severe headaches until I stopped taking them myself. Kyleena has hormones just like Mirena.

I had the Kyleena IUD inserted for medical reasons because endometrioid cysts were forming in my ovaries, and I already had a terrible experience with a cyst rupture 😓. Before this, I took Duphaston, then Jess, and in the end, my gynecologist said the only hope left was the IUD. I had it inserted in July 2022. My periods were endless—I had to take hemostatic agents—basically, it was a nightmare for about three months. I remember my gynecologist’s words so clearly: "After insertion, you’ll forget about pads and tampons." Yeah, right—I spent so much on them in those three months 🤦🏻‍♀️. Now, I have prolonged spotting before and after my periods, so I’ve basically become dependent on panty liners, which I never used before. Ovulation has become unbearably painful—I can barely walk. And then there are the two cherries on top that have made life unbearable: my libido has dropped to zero—I’m like a numb log that doesn’t want anything—and I have hellish vaginal dryness. Plus, I have round-the-clock hot flashes and sweating, and the sweat smell is so strong and stinks like a man’s—I can’t even step out of the shower. It’s just a nightmare… So now, my daily thoughts are about removing the IUD, but I don’t know what to do about the cysts… For now, I’m reading and trying to find information about similar problems, but there’s nothing out there.

Try ditching the panty liners, the doctor scolded me, I stopped using wet wipes and panty liners and the dryness went away.
