Can someone tell me what this illness is - my child coughs at night but not during the day? But at night they really have coughing fits, we even have to give them children's syrup, but during the day they don't cough at all. How does this happen, why?
Perhaps mucus from the sinuses is dripping down the throat. Or it could be an allergy to something. Have him see an ENT specialist.

You should see a doctor and have them listen to what's going on with the lungs and bronchi. The cough worsens at night because the child is lying down, which means the phlegm also shifts its position in the bronchi, accumulating not at the bottom but on the walls. It's possible that the cold wasn't fully treated.

Author, I have the same issue. I cough very badly at night, but not during the day. It's been like this for a week. My temperature is normal. My throat doesn't hurt.

In my childhood, asthma manifested itself this way.

Feather pillows and featherbeds? Allergies. For ten years, I was treated repeatedly for "cold-like" illnesses, only to eventually discover it was an allergy to feathers, wool, and dust—meaning pillows, carpets, featherbeds, and other dust collectors from the "luxurious" Soviet lifestyle.

Anyway, as soon as I moved out and started living without featherbeds and carpets, everything miraculously cleared up. It's been 20 years now. I never go back home. My relatives care more about their carpets than me, so let them live as they please.
I had the same thing when I was a kid. Asthma. Go see a doctor.

My child had the same thing. As soon as it was bedtime, 9 o'clock, there would be a wild coughing fit. You could set your watch by it. I tried everything: changed the laundry detergent, ironed everything down to the mattress. We went to an ENT specialist, who prescribed his own special mixture. I went to the pharmacy, bought everything, mixed it, took it for a week—and it all went away. I think he told me it was some kind of bacteria in the throat that becomes active at night.

When my child starts having a runny nose, nighttime coughing begins. The problem is that she never blows her nose. She sniffs everything back in, and there's no way to make her blow her nose. At night, all the mucus drains into the nasopharynx and irritates the throat walls, causing the cough. We need to clear everything out before bedtime.

Author, my child used to have this constantly when he had an ear infection. There was no fever, the ears didn't hurt, and everything else was normal, but as soon as he assumed an upright position, he would start coughing severely.

Yes, most likely, thick mucus that can't be blown out is dripping down the throat and causing a cough.

Possible adenoids, take them to an ENT specialist urgently.

You didn't mention the child's age. If under one year, drooling could be due to teething. Try laying them on their side. Don't give anything! Especially since the doctor hasn't prescribed anything. If older, it might be a runny nose and postnasal drip? It could also be an allergy to the bedding—feathers from the pillow, dust mites—you need to iron the bedding thoroughly. Or the detergent used to wash the bedding. But really, we can only guess. You need to see a doctor. What if it's asymptomatic pneumonia?

There's such a strange virus going around right now. My son (1 year 3 months) and I have been sick for three weeks now, and the nighttime cough is really exhausting. We've never had anything like this before. Lazolvan doesn't help, neither do inhalations, today we bought Gedelix syrup, maybe that will help.

Allergic cough. That's how my bronchial asthma started.

I would consider the possibility of allergies; we had exactly the same story with coughing. What's needed here is a good doctor and an individual approach. We found ours at the Family Doctor on Usacheva Street—they have a separate children's clinic there, which is very convenient when everything happens in one place.

We started with a pediatrician, and then we were sent to take various tests and see specialists. It turned out the child is very allergic, and it's rhinitis.. meaning snot accumulates at night and drips down, hence the cough and that's why it's only at night. As for an allergist I can recommend - Korolev Alexander Vladimirovich, he's simply magical, but he only practices at Family Doctor.
It's definitely because of the pillow. I need a good quality pillow without natural down or feathers.

And we sleep without a pillow, coughing very badly—a dry cough and only at night, for three days now! I don't know what it could be; we removed the flowers, got rid of everything suspicious, even changed the room, and still no improvement.

Judging by the comments, if you go to the doctor, you'll just hear another "maybe..."
What was the mixture? We have the same problem, nobody can figure it out, and the child keeps coughing badly.

Adenoids.
Yes, it's adenoids. We had the same problem. Coughing, ran to doctors, everyone in unison said it was an acute respiratory viral infection. There was often a runny nose that lasted a long time. Turned out to be adenoids already at the third degree. Now there's no runny nose but this nighttime cough is just a nightmare. My poor baby. Of course, it doesn't happen often, but as they say, rarely but accurately. Now we're waiting for the surgery. On 01/18/22, my 2-year-old little one will be operated on and I hope this torment for him will end!

And how old is your child? Have you been to the doctor? I've been treating my child's cough with Bronchobos syrup since he was 3 years old. With it, the nighttime cough goes away in about 2 days, and his nose breathes easier. Give it a try. Get well soon!
