Now I would disagree. I think, dick and penis are completely interchangeable, where is cock is mostly used only for sexual context. Dick is used in everyday life, you can say, you can see his dick through his pants. Can't imagine smbd would say, you can see his cock through his pants. Or my husbands friend sand the picture of his dick (my husband would never say, cock in this context). So, in conclusion, I would say cock always implies sexual context; dick, as I said earlier, used in everyday life. But when it is used in sexual context, it sounds a hint more brutal (like penis). This is my opinion, and if you read the messages from american website, most guys also said that. I would translate cock as дружок maybe. Would sound in the same brutality gamma for russians:)

Dream, I was just wondering, how do you know what Americans or Canadians use for sucking, did you have extensive experience or just speculating? I cannot imagine, guys would say either if there are no relationship, too embarrassing. Guys would only say something like that on a 3rd or 4th date if both are completely drunk or very high, or redneck. But I would never date redneck, all my guys had a degree, so they were quite nice to talk to. Rednecks would use dick, for sure. Cannot argue with that. So, maybe we should establish what social class we are talking about?

So, I got divorced when I was slightly over 30 years old. Of course, I wanted a Russian guy at first. I dated one for 3 mos, realized that he was a real schmuck. So, I left him. Second guy was no better. 2 kids, wife left him. He was good looking, all right. But 0 in bed. Would not even do blowjob. So, I left him too.

At that time I had a small business on a side, so one guy I was working with told me to create a profile on Plentyoffish.com. Great website, I must say. First of all, it is free, so I would highly recommend it. Of course, there are many men who are just looking for a one night stand, but some are actually looking for a partner.

So, I registered. I got right away 40 or 50 emails. So, at first I decided to sort them by profession and looks. There was a pilot, a firefighter, a doctor, few IT guys, few sales guys, a teacher (by the way, teachers make good money in Canada, did not know that at the time), few police mans, investors, realtors, massage therapists, and general labour.

The first guy I went out with was international sales manager. He was selling coffee. I really liked him and he liked me. But I was not ready to date at the time, and I thought, what if i meet somebody better. I should have given him a chance. We went to a coffee shop. I must say, Starbuck is the best coffee shop for dating. They have lounges, and there are not many people usually sitting, just people pop in, take coffee and leave. So, we talked for an hour. He suggested to get together for drinks, but I had to give him a call. I never did. I did regret about it later, I really liked him. Just was not ready for a relationship yet. And his grand parents were Greek, so he was quite good looking

I decided to take a break after a first date. I thought, it would be better if I chat with other guys first through msn. So, I decided to chat with a pilot at first. Was no fun, as he would go on a trip, disappear for a week, then drop few lines. He never had time to meet, so I eventually decided that it is not meant to be. Ok. later. My baby woke up

well, i guess it's just as well. a mere matter of preferencies :) stylistically they are absolute synonyms. I could find you many links with ppl who would ONLY prefer one or the other regardless of the intimacy level. or use both for a change, once again regardless of everything else. it's a useless argument. so, i guess we'd better move on

no, we shouldn't establish anything, but rather leave it altogether.
How could one be specilating about such things without knowing anything? Guys saying what? About their dicks? Well, this is exactly why I doubted the point of discussing this in the first place. You know there are so many sources of all kind sof info these days, that one just needs to be deaf or blind not to notice how these words are used :)

Well, this one here for instance should definitely read: He suggested THAT we get together and blah-blah

But generally speaking, if I may be honest with you now? It's not really the mistakes that concern me most in your writing. (who gives a damn about mistakes :) It's your writing as such. I mean content aside, just english-wise, when I read you I don't really feel like you took the full advantage of the language environment around you. Whether it's for the vocabulary limitations of just your english-writing skills, I'm not sure. Probably it's the cross between the two, plus the technical backgroud, I guess. And so far, your writing was not too informative in terms of english (i only speak for myself of course) Whereas I always pick a word or two whenever I get to communicate with ppl at english-speaking sites. If you r interested, "chillaxed" is one of the recent faves, I've come across on some online chat :)
dream
i mean, it's cute, isn't it? :) and you might also wanna consider decorating your speach with some set phrazes or idioms. the text sounds pretty... insipid ? without them. damn, my work prevents me from elaborating further :) but i'll stay around, so feel free to write back ;)

Nobody would say THAT here, this is how we build sentences. I used the structure you proposed when I just came to Canada, but with time I picked up from natives how THEY speak. They would build it as I wrote.
Марлетка
I would not decorate my text with anything. I am not a writer.I am very dry in any language: Russian, Ukrainian, or English. So, I am not going to change. If I could write as a writer, I would try get into newspaper and write articles, would be very good income on a side. For me my mistakes are more important than the dryness of my speech, as I have to be professional at work.
Марлетка
chillax - only young people use it here. I do not want to be somebody I am not.I am not speaking like kids or youngsters. So, if you don't mind, I would stick with my insipid way of writing.

well, it's not really I who proposed it :) it's the english grammar, you know. but, certainly, ITA, you'd better stick to the structures of your environment (just make sure you are not simply repeating someone's mistake, just in case, you know)

sure, no problem :) it's totally your call. I just thought you wanted to improve your english-writing skills. otherwise, never mind :) no one's obliged to write as a journalist. i was just probably hoping to find more local expressions and figures of speech in your texts, just like i do in any native's way of expressing themselves.. so, i'm sorry for my uncalled for comments :) as for proof-reading your actual (spelling?) mistakes, I don;t really think it's worth it. I normally take them for typos or slips of tongue.

um, not sure you really got my point here, this "chillax" was an example of my fave. i just found it a curious display of how the language lives it's own life, you know :) i believe it is one of the things why i really enjoy speaking it, if you know what i mean.
dream
aside from this youngsters vocabulary there are so many everyday colloquial phrases to choose from that i was wondering why not use them in your speech. i mean we are not writing a report or thesis here, but simply shooting the breeze :)

it's friday evening, folks!! Yay! :) I'm so looking forward to the weekend, it's a long one here, 3 days :) I'm thrilled to bits about it :)

btw, while i'm still here, just for laughs, i'm pasting the answer i got from a native speaker on dick vs cock issue (you've made me do the research after all :):
Cock vs dick is a matter of personal preference. To me, "cock" is the more sexually charged term, whereas "dick" is used more in juvenile humor. Everyone perceives a different nuance.
So, it IS true, cock seems to be percieved as a "more sexually charged term" by vast majority of speakers, however there r still those who prefer "dick" and those who use both equally in the same context. So, there is just no single rule for everyone, I guess, but I might need to reconsider my total dislike of "cock" :)

and one more, to top it :) brief and to the point
cock and dick are interchangeable. It's just a matter of preference. I personally prefer dick, but it seems like most people I know say cock.

To suggest to do something - this is a correct structure. You can check Oxford dictionary. But even better way of saying would be : He suggested we get together for drinks."That" is very often omitted in sentence structure in Canadian english. I remember I wrote my first essay in college here, I put "that" quite often. But the teacher edited the essay emphasizing that I should not use THAT word so often and try to avoid it if the sentence sounds right without it. Anyway, let's cut to the chase, you do not need THAT in my case, just trust me on this one (or check dictionaries)
