I was in the maternity hospital and saw the babies born to smokers—they all had asphyxia of varying severity, many were given injections right into the fontanelle. It was not a sight for the faint-hearted. Later, these children often get sick, as they have a weak immune system from the start and increased risks for all kinds of diseases.

Good thing you can wash down the cigarettes with Yago, so to speak, to lock in the effect.

And I've seen what beautiful and healthy children were born and grew up successfully.

My relative works in gynecology, rarely are babies born without pathologies, often with cleft lip and palate, and then the mothers cry.

The child will be weak and prone to illness. If you engage in hardening practices and sports, the immune system will strengthen by around age 10. There may also be developmental delays, and learning may be difficult.

And I work as an obstetrician... It's a matter of chance. Of course, nicotine is very harmful. But practice shows that healthy children can be born to women with bad habits, and similarly, sick children to exemplary women. So it depends on one's luck. But is it worth putting yourself at risk?!

An obstetrician cannot assess the full picture of health; they only see five fingers on the hands and feet, but what's inside the body is only visible after an examination. At one month, they do an ultrasound of the brain, and everything is visible there.

I know several women who smoked during pregnancy. One has a child with asthma, while the others are healthy. They've all grown up now and are studying at universities. But it's still better not to smoke.

I agree, the obstetrician assesses the baby's health based on external signs and reactions. However, hidden abnormalities may emerge during further examinations, and some conditions might remain concealed until the person reaches adulthood. I do not deny the harm of nicotine to the baby's body in the womb. As for the observation that the number of sick children born to smoking women equals that of non-smoking women, this is not only noted in the delivery room. In my practice, there were five mothers with children born with cleft lips. These mothers were not smokers, and according to them, their husbands did not indulge in harmful habits either. Out of approximately 20 smoking mothers, only one child was born with severe hypoxia, while the others appeared healthy during the initial examination. I have no information about their subsequent development. I agree that nicotine has a detrimental effect on the fetus in the womb. However, not all external abnormalities in children should be attributed to nicotine. Nicotine affects the fetal nervous system and can provoke hypoxia, but fetal deformities are, in most cases, not related to smoking.

I smoked throughout my entire pregnancy. Somehow, I never really worried about it. My son was born healthy. He's an honor student. He's involved in sports. He's a winner of an English language Olympiad. Handsome, sociable, and very hardworking. In a word, the pride of his parents. Knock on wood, but we've only been to hospitals with him to get vaccinations. Of course, I'm not advocating smoking during pregnancy, but it shouldn't be said that all smokers give birth to children who are universally sick or have physical deformities. It probably depends strictly on the woman's body and genes. That's my personal opinion.

How is it possible to 'just not stress about it'?
I would understand if you said you tried to quit but couldn't.
But not stressing about it... That's criminal towards your own child.

Well, I didn't bother because for the first three months, I tried very hard to quit smoking. But it turned out that while I didn't smoke, I was constantly nervous and often had hysterics. After that, my husband said it's better to smoke than to torment myself, and he was sure our child would be born perfectly healthy—it couldn't be otherwise. So after those words, I smoked, of course, choosing milder cigarettes and not bothering. And the result turned out just as my husband wanted. Then after giving birth, it naturally happened that I quit smoking, just like that, all by itself and very easily. Five years later, I got pregnant with my daughter, and she was born healthy and beautiful too. So I have two children: one born while I smoked, the other while living a healthy lifestyle. So I'm glad I quit smoking☺

They'll be healthy but a bit dumb, since there was oxygen deprivation during brain development, but no big deal - 99% of the population is the same.

Oh really? Are you sure? My children are quite intelligent, unlike their failing peers born to "proper" mothers. Intelligence is inherited from parents. So, dim-witted children have dim-witted parents who went to vocational schools.

My friend smoked during both of her pregnancies, struggled but couldn't quit, smoking the thinnest and lightest cigarettes. Both children were born without complications, knock on wood, they don't get sick, develop on schedule, and there are no complaints from neurologists or pediatricians. However, giving birth to a healthy child is undoubtedly a lottery, and it's better not to risk their health.

It depends on luck. My friend smoked during both of her pregnancies, and her children are normal with occasional childhood or seasonal illnesses/colds.

Don't smoke, girls! Think about your children. There's a lot of information on this topic, and it's written for a reason. Nicotine definitely has a detrimental effect on fetal development in the womb! Yes, maybe you'll be lucky and get away with it, but what if you're not? Are you prepared to watch a sick child grow up? To realize that you're the only one to blame for this? To blame yourself your whole life for condemning your baby to such suffering?! It's not worth it! Don't smoke; if you already do, quit urgently and don't listen to anyone, don't seek comfort on forums. The most precious thing in our lives is our children. And if you think you're a weak person and lack willpower, that is NOT true! There's no one stronger and more resilient than women in this world, especially when it comes to our children. Girls, be sensible... Wishing you and your babies good health.

It's unlikely that's from cigarettes. More likely from alcohol and drugs.

I smoked throughout my entire pregnancy. I was afraid to quit, thinking it would affect my nerves and that I wouldn't be able to do it anyway. My first labor lasted 23 hours. For the last 8 hours, I was hooked up to a CTG machine, which left huge, bloody scratches from the belt. I won't write a whole book here—thankfully, everything turned out fine. As soon as I gave birth, I quit immediately, and God forbid I ever start again. I was so scared for my baby during childbirth and truly felt the harm I could have caused with my foolishness... Thank you to the doctors who acted swiftly. My baby is the most beloved in the world. No to smoking. Future moms, your baby is one of the few, the only little person who loves you unconditionally. It's impossible for a woman who has given birth not to feel this deeply. If you don't quit, you'll blame yourself for every sneeze and cold your baby gets.

Girls, I want to say that smoking during pregnancy is definitely harmful. I myself was guilty of it. But it's complete nonsense compared to the viral infections a pregnant woman can catch during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester up to the 14th week. That stuff has 100% consequences.

I smoked during pregnancy, my daughter is healthy. At two years old she knew all the letters, at 5-6 years old she reads and retells what she's read, writes, is a bit worse at math but can add and subtract up to 20. Counts endlessly. In kindergarten, nothing but praise for my child. My mother-in-law is a pediatrician, monitored me throughout the pregnancy, she herself was born with a cigarette and her sons grew up strong. I think it all depends on the mother's health and genetics.

Smoking varies from person to person. Some smoke two packs a day, while others have three cigarettes a week. In any case... smoking is a risk and a threat.

I smoked throughout my entire pregnancy, not as much as before, just 3-4 cigarettes a day. The whole pregnancy went perfectly, I gave birth without any complications, and my child is now a sight to behold—rolled over onto their stomach, crawled, stood up on their own, started talking, and walked earlier than friends' children (even though those friends didn't smoke at all, some of their kids had cleft lips and developmental delays, despite living a healthy lifestyle).
It's everyone's personal choice; no one is saying to smoke one or two packs a day. If you can't quit, at least try to restrain yourself—a pack used to last me a whole week!
So, I don't believe any of that at all!

I also couldn't quit and read many similar topics on the forum. If my review is helpful to anyone, I'll be glad. There's nothing good about smoking during pregnancy, no matter what anyone says. I smoked throughout my pregnancy; my daughter was born healthy, and I had a normal milk supply only for the first few months, then it stopped, even though I really wanted to breastfeed for at least a year. She was born with low weight, was fussy, and nervous. Now she's two years old and developing normally, but she often gets sick. I'm not claiming it's from smoking, but I advise at least quitting for a year, to endure it. My daughter gets a cold every month, apparently that's her immune system, even though we take great care of her. If I decide to have a second child, I will definitely quit. Girls, if you're hesitating, can't quit, and are reading this, believe me, it's better to quit at least for a while. Don't read that it doesn't leave its mark; yes, every child is unique, but I wouldn't do it again. Quit at least temporarily; everything shows up in the future, even if at first glance everything seems fine.

Not everyone can be straight-A students like yours! And that doesn't apply if a child gets C's - it doesn't mean their parents were smokers.

I found out I was pregnant and quit, but started again in the sixth month. Of course, I tried to limit myself to one or two cigarettes a day. I gave birth naturally at 38 weeks—no complications at all. The baby is completely healthy. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and I've been very hard on myself.

So what then!? Are you aware that quitting smoking abruptly isn't allowed either, even for non-pregnant people!? It's a habit on a psychological level, that's why it's hard to get rid of. Children are born sick in most cases due to unhealthy genetics, not because the mother smokes or even drinks! There are such cases too. I'm not encouraging anyone to do this.

My wife quit smoking a year before conception, having smoked for nine years prior. I have never smoked. Our child experienced asthma attacks from ages one to four, where he would simply struggle to breathe. We called ambulances, but asthma was never officially diagnosed. My wife blamed it on the likelihood of asthmatics in my family, suggesting it was passed down to our child. Now, at twelve years old, his teachers complain that he's inattentive and can't focus on anything for more than two to five minutes. School is very difficult for him, but otherwise, he's hyperactive. By the way, our second child had similar asthma episodes in early childhood. Whether this is linked to past smoking—no one can say for sure. It's easier to attribute it to "all kids are hyperactive these days, and health issues are due to environmental factors."

You write about alcohol and cigarettes. I didn't smoke or drink during my pregnancy, but at 25 weeks... it turned out to be a bad fertilized egg. The result: throughout the pregnancy, I ate vegetables, fruits, walked, and what was the outcome? Meanwhile, some people smoke, drink, and give birth to healthy children. I cried terribly afterward—like, addicts have healthy babies, and here I am, doing nothing wrong, and this happens to me...

I didn't smoke. Essentially, I'm a defectologist, and my opinion is that the harm of smoking is exaggerated. No, often children with disorders come from well-off families. Honestly, my view is that having a child with impairments is mostly a lottery. But I didn't smoke, my first child was born with a syndrome. I didn't smoke, followed doctors' advice, prepared for pregnancy—I'm a conscientious person in this matter. The pregnancy proceeded without pathologies or threats; doctors in both private and public clinics saw no issues. But there were premature birth, a 7-point score at birth, and neurological status (this didn't happen with my second child). I'm glad I didn't smoke because I definitely couldn't have caused harm. If I had smoked, I would have blamed the situation on cigarettes and tormented myself alive. Although, I repeat, I'm a defectologist and deeply believe that smoking is harmful, but this harm is exaggerated. Those who smoke—it doesn't mean everything will be bad, but those who find the strength not to smoke—it's better not to smoke.

Sorry, but you, ma'am, shouldn't work as an obstetrician. You should work as an X-ray. You "know" 100% about the health of the born child or their future health, since you're a "clairvoyant". Well, well... study anatomy and biology... obstetrician...

Why did you smoke throughout your pregnancy? Was it necessary or very important for you or the child...? Where are the maternal feelings?...And this...mom...A mother and any woman in general should preserve and carry life, not the opposite. It's hard to imagine what a woman, if you can even call her that, is thinking when she does such a thing during this period, and even justifies herself...definitely not about preserving the child's life. This is not a woman's business at all, it's immoral...especially while being pregnant. Smoking is a form of everyday drug addiction. Absurd and barbaric. Criminal. Call it whatever you want, but it's hard to call such a person a mother...

Nonsense. ...Lock you in a room and have someone come every 2-3 hours to smoke a cigarette in that room, leaving just a tiny crack in the window for air, and you'd have to stay like that for 9 months without leaving the room...and let's see what tune you'd be singing after a day or two...so just imagine what a child feels, this fragile, developing being. Up to 36 weeks, under such conditions, it might not even survive. And what would you say? It's strange that women smoke at all, especially while pregnant...and even justify themselves... Complete madness. It's hard to call such a person a woman, let alone a mother...Cigarettes aren't needed by the body at all, neither male nor especially female, if you just think about it a little and use your brain. It's dumb, stupid, immoral. Many normal men say exactly that - there are no women left, just chicks...It's offensive, but it's a fact. And we don't want to fight for such ones. Zero worth. Women are so strange these days...or whatever they are...
