I've had it for 5 years, just the right time to switch to another one. I'll get Mirena again. I'll only get Mirena, even if it costs 80,000 rubles. I'm 35 years old, have two children, and I got Mirena as soon as I stopped breastfeeding my second child. There have been no problems, and there still aren't. An added bonus—since I got Mirena, I've gotten rid of anemia.

Di, have you missed your period? And did you have it inserted for medical reasons as a treatment? Or just as an option for an IUD?

What is this one? Is it the non-hormonal one that lasts for five years? I didn't know it had a name... My friends and I have hormonal ones... What's so terrible about it? My doctor didn't tell me anything...

If you read German, I recommend checking out the reviews on this forum dedicated to Mirena. It'll quickly make you think twice about inserting anything into yourself:

Well, can you give me the short version? I don't speak German. I've been curious about this Myrena for a while, and there are a lot of negative reviews.

I had one for three years. My periods stopped, and my libido dropped below zero.

I've had it for two years now... so far, so good... knock on wood.

So, how do you write that in German? Share, please-)

For two years, I had no periods and started experiencing terrible bouts of depression. I was slowly going crazy until I saw a gynecologist-endocrinologist. She immediately figured it out—an excess of the hormone progesterone and progesterone attacks, which were linked to the nervous episodes. Then, for several months, I couldn't get pregnant, followed by a missed miscarriage. I'm 36 years old—I've tried various IUDs and pills, and nothing was worse than Mirena.

On this forum, women share their experiences. Often, they are not the most pleasant. Typically, the story begins with depression, panic attacks, pain, etc., starting after the insertion of Mirena. Then comes the stage of visiting doctors who either say everything is fine or prescribe antidepressants and sedatives. After a few years, the Mirena is finally removed, and the recovery period begins.
Of course, these are only negative reviews. But who guarantees that you won't find yourself in such a situation? Not everything is as safe as doctors and... assure us... after all, it's also a business...

3 (Black Sea Sprat) - My periods haven't disappeared, they've just become lighter. No depression, nothing hurts or has hurt since the very first day. Libido hasn't been affected. I think it's always best to follow the doctor's advice. I feel for the women it didn't suit, I don't even know what I'd use for contraception without it.

Exactly. That's exactly what happened to me—my periods disappeared, I had constant depression, plus I broke out in such bad acne that I didn't know what to do. I didn't have these problems as a teenager! By the way, I had no desire either. I removed it a year and a half ago, and my cycle is still irregular. You really have to be careful with hormones.

From what I understand, those with a stronger constitution who can adapt to this Mirena don't experience side effects. So it's like jumping into water without knowing how to swim, unaware of the depth, and it's a matter of luck—some land in shallow water, others in deep. Sex hormones are a murky area, and interfering with them is, at the very least, unsafe—it's like treating a toothache with painkillers.

SCARED, it's terrifying. I also heard about the hormonal ring NOVA-RING, PLEASE GIVE REVIEWS. THANK YOU.

I used to have very severe menstrual pain; I would just lie flat, taking painkillers, and my periods were extremely heavy, like bleeding, and I had hyperplasia. After getting the Mirena inserted, the pain disappeared, and my periods became light, which allows me to exercise on critical days and even go to the beach. The hyperplasia is gone. I had terrible postpartum depression... Now, I don't notice it anymore. As for libido... I feel like "it" has decreased, that's a fact. But so far, the positives outweigh it. We'll see.

I've had it for 3 years. It's comfortable, although I was completely bedridden for the first 3 days, and my stomach hurt for about 3 months. But it helped with my very painful periods!

A side effect was increased hemoglobin.

I have had Mirena for 1.5 months. No pain at all. My stomach ached for the first 1.5 days after insertion. The first period was long—two weeks—but not heavy and without pain. I feel like my facial skin condition has worsened a bit. On the other hand, my libido has increased. After giving birth, I somehow became less "in the mood." But now everything has returned, even intensified. We'll see how it goes. For me, Mirena is the lesser evil compared to birth control pills.

I've had the Mirena IUD for three years now, and I'm extremely satisfied with it. I have uterine fibroids, a fibromyoma about 7-8 weeks in size. The constant, prolonged periods were just exhausting. I often ended up in the hospital for curettage because the bleeding from the fibroids wouldn't stop. But once I got it inserted, all my problems ended. My periods have almost stopped, there's no lower abdominal pain in the first few days, and I can swim, run, and jump. My libido hasn't decreased; on the contrary, it's even... My husband and I have started enjoying sex immensely. My doctor told me it's only for five years. So, in two more years, I'll have it removed to let my uterus rest, and then I'll get it again at any cost. With it, I finally feel like a woman and a human being. And I don't worry about staining my underwear or bed with period blood anymore.

I've read some reviews. I'd say it depends on how one's body reacts to foreign objects.

As they say, to each their own.

Yeah, and most importantly: my fibroid has started to "shrink"—it's been 5 weeks now, not 7-8 like before.
#19
Olga, after the removal of Mirena, the next system can be inserted immediately—no rest period for the uterus is necessary. However, if you take a break and then have the system inserted again, it will be stressful for the body, as it will have to readjust to the system anew.
As for fibroids—Mirena can stabilize fibroids and, in some cases, even slow their growth. This positive effect is noted by gynecologists worldwide, and the insertion of the system is often an alternative to surgical treatment.
Good luck.

Girls, I've had Mirena for two weeks. Yesterday I worked a lot and started bleeding, my stomach hurt. The doctor didn't tell me anything about physical exertion.
#23
During the first month after the Mirena insertion, it is necessary to limit physical exertion. You need to visit the doctor in person and have a follow-up ultrasound.

#24
Can you tell me if there are any contraindications for inserting Mirena?
#25
Contraindications include: pregnancy or suspected pregnancy, inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs, infections of the lower urinary tract, postpartum endometritis, septic miscarriage within the last three months, cervicitis, conditions associated with increased susceptibility to infections, cervical dysplasia with signs of atypia, malignant processes of the uterus or cervix, pathological uterine bleeding of unknown etiology, congenital or acquired uterine anomalies, including fibroids that lead to deformation of the uterine cavity, acute liver diseases or liver tumors, breast cancer, hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

My 70-year-old mother was prescribed Miren, it's expensive but it's not about the money, if only it would help. After reading here, I'm already afraid to buy it myself.
#27
Interesting, why was Mirena prescribed at 70 years old?? O_O

How to tell if the Mirena is not positioned correctly.
#29
Visit a gynecologist and get an ultrasound.

I have had Mirena for 4 months as treatment for endometriosis. The first two months after insertion, my periods lasted two weeks. Before Mirena, they were 3 days. Now, with each month, the periods are getting shorter in duration and lighter in flow. My legs are swelling. I've gained weight. And I'm occasionally bothered by some colorless, sticky-like discharge (not related to my period). There's no pain during contact, and my libido hasn't decreased—on the contrary... So far, there are no very serious problems. I'll see what happens next. Of course, after reading reviews, it gets a bit scary—what else is to come? But my gynecologist assures me that all the side effects will go away with time.

I had Mirena inserted 15 days ago. The discharge hasn't stopped and is actually getting heavier. Sometimes I feel a pulling sensation in my lower abdomen. The doctor said this can happen and may continue for 2-3 months. The outlook isn't very encouraging.

Of course, like everything else, whether Mirena is suitable or not is highly individual. If there are no side effects, Mirena is incredibly convenient because it allows you to completely forget about the discomfort associated with menstruation. As for side effects, it's all relative. If the only concern is menstrual cycle disruption, it's truly a temporary process—again, for some, it lasts longer, while for others, things settle down more quickly. But gradually, everything will normalize. In my case, the constant spotting only stopped after a year. However, fluid clearly builds up in the body, causing severe leg swelling, especially by the end of the day, and I gained weight. My hair fell out wildly at first, though it's starting to recover a bit now, and my breasts hurt so much that I sometimes have to sleep with pain relief patches. Varicose veins in my legs are progressing very rapidly. I have very severe back pain, and my gynecologist immediately linked this back pain directly to Mirena. Honestly, if I had known about all these side effects, I would never have gotten Mirena. Moreover, while my doctor initially kept urging me to endure and wait for things to improve, now, after a year and a half, he no longer denies that Mirena is completely unsuitable for me personally.

I have a Mirena IUD. Heavy periods, a polyp, a D&C, and treatment with Mirena. It's been a year. Now my periods are almost nonexistent. At first, there was spotting for a long time. I feel good. Knock on wood. My legs don't swell. I haven't gained weight. My stomach doesn't hurt. I guess it's all very individual.

I have had Mirena for two months. There's a little spotting that seems to increase after sex, but there's no pain—I don't feel any during sex at all.

I've decided to get Mirena and already made an appointment with the doctor. But then I decided to reread the pros and cons again, and now I'm terrified........ Is there any way to determine before getting Mirena whether it will suit me or not?
#38
Unfortunately, such a possibility does not exist. Each organism is unique, and it is impossible to predict the likelihood of side effects or their intensity.
Vera
#39
SHERAKU, could you please tell me the likelihood that if intense side effects occur with Mirena, the same effects will happen when taking oral hormones. The thing is, in my case, for example, Mirena was inserted solely for therapeutic purposes. And if it's removed, I'll still have to be treated with hormonal medications. But it's not certain that my body won't react to them. And I don't really want to try every pill out there either. With Mirena, at least my stomach and liver aren't affected. I don't even know what to do. I've realized that after a year and a half with Mirena, there's no longer any hope that everything will stabilize? Or is there still some hope???
#40
You know, I wouldn't dare make any assumptions about the possibility of side effects from medications here, as every organism is unique.
But considering that even intrauterine hormone administration has side effects—when the drug hardly even gets absorbed into the bloodstream—the hormone levels in the blood with oral intake are significantly higher, hundreds of times more. This could mean that the side effects from them might be more pronounced. But these are just my thoughts. The system works very well for fibroids, reducing bleeding intensity and helping stabilize the growth of the nodes, or even causing their regression.

I've had Mirena for two and a half years. During the first two months, I experienced nausea and weakness, and had some spotting. The doctor prescribed medication, and everything stopped. Now I'm glad I didn't have it removed (I had considered it during the first few weeks). I hardly have any periods now, and no pain either, whereas before I used to be completely bedridden on the first day.

Does Mirena have a therapeutic effect for a 14-week multi-nodular fibroid at age 50? (Menopause has not yet occurred.)

Is it worth inserting? Or are there other non-surgical treatment methods to dissolve the nodules?

My mom has had this IUD for 3 years now, and everything is just great. Don't listen to the rumors—someone heard something from someone, read it somewhere, or a neighbor made it up on a park bench. You should trust your doctor.

Mirena is a therapeutic IUD; it saved my mom from having a hysterectomy. And if the doctor says to get another one, I'll pay for it and we'll get another. Yes, it's expensive—but the effect is worth it!

And for those who don't know, my only request is at least don't write nasty comments and mislead people.

I had it for 6 years, removed it for 3 months this year, and will put the same one back in. The fibroid has dissolved.
#46
It's really nice to hear such good feedback, it truly warms my heart :)
Olya! A 14-week fibroid is indeed a large size and requires surgical treatment.
Unfortunately. If only it had been a bit earlier... :(

Hello! I had the Mirena IUD inserted 1.5 years ago. As for side effects—my periods have become very, very light (though I doubt that's a side effect). No weight gain, no worsening of my skin condition, and my sex life hasn't changed for the worse)). At the time of the Mirena insertion, I had fibroids. Two nodes, 2 cm and 0.8 cm. Over the past 1.5 years, they have significantly decreased to 0.8 cm and 0.6 cm. I have regular ultrasounds.

In conclusion, I want to say that I am very pleased I got this IUD; for me, it's quite good and convenient.

I had my Mirena removed two weeks ago. It had been in place for over five years. The hyperplasia disappeared, my periods didn't stop but were moderate and didn't interfere with normal life. There were no issues with weight, skin, or mood. My libido actually became quite good, even though I'm almost 50. I plan to get Mirena again. I think nausea, weakness, bad mood, weight gain, and lack of libido shouldn't be attributed to Mirena. There are plenty of other reasons for all these unpleasant symptoms.

Hello! Girls, I'm considering getting a Mirena, but the side effects are scary—what worries me most is weight gain, especially since I've just gotten back in shape after giving birth. My diagnosis is endometriosis, and my doctor recommended Mirena for treatment because the condition is progressing. But in my case, I have to choose between either Yarina or Mirena; pills have always been pills, but I really don't want to gain weight or have my hair fall out.

Lola, I used NovaRing for 1.5 years and was extremely satisfied!!! I inserted it and didn't worry about anything for a month—forgot about it and lived a normal life. There were no side effects—no weight gain, no bad moods! When I wanted to get pregnant, I stopped using it and got pregnant without any problems in just 2 months!!!
