Kailina intrauterine device

Good afternoon, ladies! Could you please tell me, has anyone had the Kailina coil fitted? My gynaecologist recommended it, but there are almost no reviews.

I've had it since March. At first, my periods seemed heavier, but the doctor said that's normal and will pass soon. And yes, by the way, now my periods are shorter than before and not heavy. Insertion wasn't painful; I hardly felt it. What I'm most happy about is not having to think about pills every day! I used to forget, then worry for half a month about whether I might be pregnant. The anxiety killed my desire for sex. My husband would get annoyed. But now everyone's happy. Anytime, anywhere! 😀

Hello, could you tell me if you had any headaches? I recently had mine fitted (15.09.22) and have had a terrible headache for three days now. I don't usually suffer from headaches. And now I'm wondering if it's the coil's fault or just a coincidence.

I also encountered this issue, that there are absolutely no reviews online. But I trusted the doctor. She said it's like Mirena, only with a lower hormone dosage (like the 'daughter' of Mirena).

Good afternoon. No, I didn't have any headaches. In terms of how I feel, it actually got better. My haemoglobin increased and I feel alive again.

I've had it for 2 months.
On the plus side: of course, it's very convenient. I'm absolutely against a second pregnancy in the next 5 years, so I wanted to protect myself—fears about pregnancy completely killed my libido. Condoms are tiresome, and the pull-out method isn't for me. My gynecologist also recommended Kyleena.

On the minus side: it suppresses endometrial growth (my gynecologist reassured me that everything will recover once it's removed); my cycle has been disrupted, with spotting for 1.5 months; bacterial vaginosis developed due to the discharge (blood is an excellent environment for bacterial growth); swelling appeared, and I gained +1 kg (despite regular exercise, a low-carb diet, etc.).

Overall, my doctors (gynecologist and endocrinologist) and I decided to wait and see. The adaptation period is typically considered up to 6 months, and the main side effects tend to emerge during this time. If it continues to cause general discomfort, I'll have it removed. Aside from the convenience of contraception, I don't see many other benefits.

Good afternoon. The spotting will last until your first period after insertion. After that, it'll all clear up. I'm on my 3rd month with it, and everything's fine. I also spent ages looking for reviews but couldn't find any. I got it fitted at my own risk. Haven't found any downsides.

Hello everyone! I had Kyleena inserted in June.
After a long period of taking the pill and experiencing a lack of libido, I decided this was the optimal choice, especially since I already have two children.
The insertion took 5 minutes, and it felt like a normal period.
There was some spotting for about 3 months afterwards, but it was very light and didn’t affect my life at all. I was prepared for it, as my doctor had warned me that this is normal.
I haven’t found any downsides at all! Yes, the price isn’t low, but it only seems that way at first. If you calculate how much pills cost every month, Kyleena is much more cost-effective—it’s like using it for free for 4 years!)))
The pros: no pain before periods, everything is perfectly on schedule, periods are lighter and finish faster. No breast pain, no pulling or aching sensations. No weight gain—I even found studies showing that Kyleena doesn’t affect weight. Some people even lost weight.
Plus, you don’t have to remember every day whether you’ve taken the pill or not, and there’s no worry if you miss one. Here, nothing depends on you anymore, and it really makes life and nerves easier))
Overall, for me, it’s simply a game-changer! And if before I was hesitant and didn’t want an IUD, now I would only choose an IUD))))
Don’t be afraid! It’s definitely better than abortions.

Hello, yesterday I had it inserted on the strong advice of the doctor. Previously, I had two Multiload and one Goldlily. Inserting the Kalina wasn't too painful, but I took a strong painkiller before the procedure. I also haven't seen any reviews, but I trusted the doctor because with the previous coil, my periods became too heavy and long—I wore it for 6.5 years. The doctor said it's like Mirena, only cheaper. I bought it yesterday for 9,500 plus 2,400 for the insertion.

I had the coil fitted in November. So far, I haven't noticed any positive aspects. I hadn't had a coil fitted before and haven't given birth, which might be why the insertion was extremely painful. The first three days were essentially a write-off; I was relying on Spasmolgon. Throughout the month, I experienced spotting, breast tenderness, headaches, a constant feeling of fatigue, pulling pains in the lower abdomen, and a complete lack of libido. My first period after the insertion arrived, and the severe pain returned—so much so that getting through the day without painkillers was impossible. The flow also became much heavier compared to my periods before the coil.

I had an ultrasound to check that the coil hadn't shifted and was still in place. They say the adjustment period is 2–3 months, but I doubt I can endure this for that long.

I had it inserted on December 6th, during my period. The insertion was uncomfortable, but nothing too bad. Before this, I’ve had two births and tried various contraceptive methods, including regular IUDs. With regular IUDs (once a copper one after the first birth, and a second time a silver Juno after the second), I experienced very long periods and constant spotting in between. I had the first IUD removed after a year because a routine ultrasound showed it had shifted. Thank God, I didn’t get pregnant then. It was removed. I had the second IUD removed after 1.5 years because the constant spotting was interfering with my life. Between the first and second pregnancies, I used hormonal pills (Mediana). They suited me perfectly, but sometimes I forgot to take them and would stress afterward, waiting for my period. Fertility returned quickly after stopping the hormones.

We’re not planning a third, so I decided on a hormonal IUD. The gynecologist recommended Kyleena. It turned out to be much cheaper than Mirena, with the same effect. I bought it for 10,800 rubles. It’s been in for just over two weeks. There’s some spotting. I’m more worried about it shifting, so the money doesn’t go "down the drain")))) and, of course, about an unplanned pregnancy too. I have an ultrasound in a month. And God willing, my cycle will regulate itself🙏

Hello! In August, I had the Kyleena coil fitted to treat endometriosis, as the pain was very severe and my gynaecologist recommended it. The procedure itself was bearable, but afterwards, everything inside hurt a lot, with pain radiating to the rectum. I went for an ultrasound, and the coil was in place; it turned out that my intestines had become inflamed, though I'm not sure why—everything just felt painful somehow. After treating the intestinal issue, the pain went away. I had light spotting for two months, but after my periods, there's been no pain at all, which I'm really happy about. I don't regret getting it for a second. There haven't been any significant side effects, and it's much better than taking contraceptive pills.

I had the coil fitted in March '22; the insertion was painless, and I only bled for a day afterwards with no pain. The downside is the prolonged spotting – it sometimes stops but then starts again. For now, I'm monitoring it with my doctor as I'm still breastfeeding. Overall, it's not bad, but the long-lasting spotting is quite draining.

I had it inserted in July '22, and it didn't suit me. I often have a dull pain in my lower abdomen, sometimes even radiating down to my legs. There's heavy discharge, and for the first two months, there was spotting. I'm going to have it removed.

Good afternoon! I've had mine since August too, this cycle there wasn't really a period, just a bit of spotting, but strictly on schedule. Ovulation occurred. Actually, the instructions say that periods will disappear over time. The mechanism of action is to prevent the endometrium from thickening.

I haven't gained weight on it, but as soon as I start eating poorly, of course it sticks. But it definitely doesn't cause swelling. It can contribute to insulin resistance, so nutrition should be proper.

Good afternoon! I've read... that coils shouldn't be fitted in women who haven't given birth! That's why there's pain and discomfort. Change your gynaecologist and get this coil removed.

Hello. I had the Mirena coil inserted on the last day of my period, 8 December. For about a month, I had daily spotting, which sometimes turned into a period. By the end of the second month, it seemed to settle down, and I started to distinguish between my period and spotting. But! My breasts have become very bothersome, especially the right one. When I'm at rest, like when I turn from side to side at night, I get a strong, burning, sharp pain in my breast. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Hello, I had something like that when I switched pills from Mediana to Jess, my breasts also started hurting like yours, I went for a breast ultrasound and to see a mammologist, turned out it was mastopathy 🤷 apparently the change in hormones somehow triggered it

Good afternoon! I had a coil fitted in March 2022. After some time, my hair started falling out severely... I thought I would end up completely bald (I didn't even consider the hormone levonorgestrel in the coil). In December 2022, I had an ectopic pregnancy and had my fallopian tube removed. The coil was naturally removed immediately. On the third day after the coil was removed, my hair stopped falling out. The obstetrician-gynaecologist-surgeon said that this was the third case in her practice where someone reported hair loss due to the Kyleena LNG coil. And I don't know if it's because of this coil or not – the ultrasound diagnosis was stage 1 endometriosis...
Everyone's body is different... Draw your own conclusions.

For those with thyroid issues (hypothyroidism in this case), I do not recommend it!! Two months have passed since I had it inserted, and I sometimes experience a pre-fainting state. I had my TSH tested, and it has significantly increased! I'm waiting for my period and will remove it immediately!

You're having a hormonal side effect in the form of migraines. I suffered like that for about 15 years, from the pill. Not a single doctor ever figured out why I had such bad headaches, until I stopped taking them myself. It's the same with Kyleena as with Mirena—they're hormonal.

I had the Kyleena IUD inserted for medical reasons, as endometrioid cysts were forming in my ovaries, and I had already experienced the unfortunate event of a cyst rupture 😓. Before this, I took Duphaston, then Jess, and in the end, the gynaecologist said that the only hope left was the IUD. It was inserted in July 2022. My periods became endless, and I had to take haemostatic agents—basically, it was a nightmare for about three months. I remember the gynaecologist's words so clearly: "After insertion, you'll forget about pads and tampons." Well, exactly—I spent so much on them over those three months 🤦🏻‍♀️. Now, I have prolonged spotting before and after my periods, so I've basically become dependent on panty liners, which I never used before. Ovulation has become terribly painful—unbearable to walk. And then, the two cherries on top of the cake that have made life unbearable: my libido has dropped to zero—I'm just an unfeeling log that wants nothing—and there's an infernal dryness in the vagina. Plus, round-the-clock hot flashes and sweating, and the sweat smell is so strong and stinks like a man's—I can't get out of the shower. It's just a nightmare... So now, my daily thoughts are about removing the IUD, but what to do about the cysts is unclear... For now, I'm reading and trying to find information about similar problems, but there's nothing.

Try ditching the panty liners; my doctor told me off, so I stopped using them and wet wipes, and the dryness went away.
