The child will have a very weak immune system, which could lead to cancer.

Speech development is delayed; they will start speaking late, and a speech therapist-neurologist will be necessary in the future, along with a speech therapist, and there are also issues with the airways.

And who here used public transport during pregnancy, went to crowded places, got stressed, argued with their husband, ate the wrong foods, and OH MY!!! the horror!!!!!! worked?!

So, since we have so little nerves and urban ecology, let's also add a bloody long list of poisonous substances to our bodies. And we could also take some heroin and meth, carefully during pregnancy. Ecology, what's the big deal.

My mother has been smoking since she was 19 and continues to this day; she is now 56. She never stopped smoking, even during her pregnancies, and she had four of them. Yet, it hasn't affected any of us four; only one of my brothers has health issues, and that's due to a childhood injury.

Apparently, it doesn't affect the baby at all. I have two sisters, both smoked during their pregnancies, and all their children are fine – they're smart, quick, and healthy primary school pupils now. I was just wasting my breath lecturing them about the harms of smoking.

That's exactly what I'm saying((( how can anyone carry a baby to term in big cities... only down-and-outs and the destitute do that! All pregnant women who care about their babies live in the Caucasus mountains, Switzerland or on Mars and give birth there too.

Many of my friends smoked during pregnancy, and all their children are healthy; I am a smoker, but I didn't smoke during pregnancy due to morning sickness.

I used to smoke. Touch wood, the child is healthy. But I hate myself for it. Don't smoke when pregnant, don't poison your child. By the way, I actually quit when I gave birth and haven't smoked to this day, but I couldn't while I was pregnant.

And passive smoking is just as harmful, so what now, should we not go outside?)

My mother smoked until the 20th week of her pregnancy with me because she didn't know she was pregnant (her periods came regularly for four months). It didn't affect my health at all—I have a great immune system and always excelled in both studies and sports. However, my mother gave birth to me when she was 21. Perhaps that played a role. Well, I smoke too—possibly because of my mother—and quitting was extremely difficult for me. I started smoking again after giving birth.

My friend used to smoke, and her children are wonderful, healthy, and rarely get sick. However, she never smoked more than five cigarettes a day. She really wanted to quit but couldn't manage it. Still, five cigarettes a day is not the same as a whole pack...

Both friends smoked during pregnancy. Both have sons. One has vision problems, the other has a weak immune system.

Many acquaintances of mine smoked during pregnancy, and all their children are healthy, strong, and developed well. But there's a friend who follows a healthy lifestyle, and she gave birth to an underweight baby with some heart issue. Of course, I'm advocating for smoking, the choice is yours, but still, one should try to quit.

Why do alcoholics and drug addicts have normal children? Could it be genetics?

I smoked during pregnancy. My daughter was born prematurely, weighing 1250 grams, and only started walking at one year and ten months old. In school, she was almost the smallest in her class and often fell ill. I blame myself for this! So, never smoke.

Because they're like weeds... there are some that no matter how much you try to poison them, the bastards just keep growing and feeling great, while cultivated plants wither and die.
During my pregnancy I didn't smoke, I'd quit long before that, but I drank beer and champagne and ate everything (fried, smoked, salty). And everything turned out fine for me.... My child is 1.5 years old, doesn't get sick, no allergies or anything.

My sister smoked - my niece seems perfectly healthy. She's such a calm girl. Ordinary. Did poorly in school - but I don't think it's related to smoking. Just a slacker like her mum. Her mother didn't pay much attention to her. They both focused heavily on "art". Basically, the main thing for the mother was that her daughter could draw well. So she ended up enrolling in a design college.

By the way, my sister's friend smoked constantly, and her daughter was born deaf. I don't know if it's related. Maybe it depends on how much one smokes. My sister seemed to try to smoke less during pregnancy. She even tried to quit.

She also had her wedding right in the first trimester. Of course, she smoked at the wedding. I don't know about the toast; maybe she allowed herself a little.

I know she drank a little wine when she was breastfeeding her daughter when she was 2 months old. She says it's no big deal, the baby sleeps better that way... My husband and I were horrified by that information.)))

I smoked. My daughter was born exactly on time, weight 3750, height 58. She hardly ever gets ill. She's now in her 3rd year of university. And?
Throw stones at me, but all life experience shows that smoking doesn't affect a child's health. I can't find any correlation. Alcohol affects it, smoking doesn't.

I want to share my mistake. I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks. I was so shocked that at first, cigarettes lost their meaning, and images of the baby and my future flashed through my mind. I fully understood that smoking wasn't allowed. But out of habit, I turned to the internet to find something to soothe me. And miraculously, I found information saying it was okay to smoke until 9 weeks... supposedly, it wasn't as harmful to the fetus. This calmed me down, and I continued smoking. Of course, I switched to Kent Slims to reduce the harm. Then nine weeks passed... and I started searching again for justifications to ease my habit. On one website, I found information claiming it was acceptable to smoke until 15 weeks, only after which it wasn't allowed... and that I still had the same chances of having a healthy baby as a non-smoker.

I kept smoking. By the way, at the 12-week screening, everything was fine. Then came 15 weeks... I couldn't quit smoking, so I continued. At 19 weeks, I went for the second screening and was told there was intrauterine growth restriction, oligohydramnios, and that an urgent delivery was needed. The fetus was already two weeks behind at that point. While waiting for the medical board's decision and the doctors' expectant management, by 22 weeks, the delay had grown to five weeks. The baby had formed correctly but simply wasn't growing and was underweight.

I will never forgive myself for this. I destroyed my child myself. Now, after everything that happened, I've quit smoking. But the guilt never leaves me. I feel terrible.

Don't smoke during pregnancy because the pain afterward is unbearable, and nothing can be undone.

I smoked throughout my entire pregnancy, thinking I would gradually quit, but it didn't work out. My boyfriend and I broke up, and the stress was overwhelming—I ended up smoking 5-6 cigarettes a day. Of course, I blamed myself terribly for it, read forums about it, but just couldn't stop. On New Year's and my birthday, I even had a glass of wine, and once I even craved beer. However, I made sure to walk outdoors every day, both in the afternoon and evening. By the last month, I had cut down to 1-2 cigarettes a day. The doctor also recommended I try a hyperbaric chamber to breathe in oxygen—it's not a cheap procedure, but I was so anxious that I didn't mind spending the money. Now, my baby and I are 8 months old, and everything is fine. He was born weighing 3900 grams, a real little champion, and the birth was easy—I delivered quickly. As a friend of mine told me, "Don't worry, you were already smoking before the pregnancy. Your body was used to it, and he was conceived while you were smoking. If you had started smoking during pregnancy, you probably would have harmed the baby." By the way, she smoked with both of her sons, and they're healthy adults now with no developmental or health issues.

I smoke, can't quit no matter what, there's no point now anyway, 37th week. I smoke a pack a day, although the lightest ones. I don't rely on God! Ultrasound is all fine, weight is even above normal. I smoked with my older one too, 10 years old, completely healthy lad.

I've been a heavy smoker all along; I always enjoyed smoking and never thought about quitting. I smoked for about 14 years, I think. Crazy, honestly... but still, the fact remains))) I smoked during pregnancy up until the 20th week, having one or two cigarettes a day with a sense of fear and the thought that I was committing a sin. But as soon as I felt the baby's first movements, I stopped immediately; I couldn't carry on. It's a very strange and awful feeling when you inhale smoke containing at least 14,000 harmful substances and at the same time feel the baby moving inside. The full realisation of my pregnancy only came to me with those first movements. That's how it was. Smoking is an addiction, a disease. In the best scenario, a doctor is needed here. It's not right to judge expectant mothers who smoke; the best advice is to see a psychologist.

I've been smoking for a very long time! This addiction is devastating! During my first pregnancy, I smoked one cigarette a week, and during the second, one cigarette a day. I scold myself when buying cigarettes, but I can't help it. Doctors claim that nothing directly reaches the baby; only the blood condition is affected.

Where did you even get the idea that this was because of smoking?
Many people have children with various pathologies and problems, and it's absolutely not because of smoking. Smoke goes into the lungs. How does it get to the baby through the placenta.
Such nonsense you're writing
Sorry, honestly

Of course, doctors will say that smoking harms health, not just the baby's but yours as well.
They are doctors; they can't say otherwise.
Many doctors and midwives smoke their whole lives and smoked while pregnant.
And it hasn't affected their children in any way.
Let scientists take up and conduct research to prove that a particular illness or pathology in a child occurred specifically due to the harm of tobacco smoke or nicotine.
Even a gynaecologist always explains that the child is protected from everything in their placenta.
And when you smoke, the smoke goes into your lungs.
At most, it affects your lungs and your heart.
There's so much nonsense written on the internet, and everyone believes it all.
90 out of 100 people smoke; it's just that not everyone talks about it—some might be ashamed.
The healthiest people give birth to unhealthy children.
And no one considers that there isn't always an explanation for it: genetics, heredity, environment, issues with you or your husband.
Even something as basic as one partner having chromosomes that don't all function properly.
Yet you blame it all on smoking.
If anything is harmful among bad habits, it's definitely alcohol, which enters your bloodstream.

I smoked, but it didn't affect the child at all; I really smoked very little—sometimes three cigarettes a day, or just one a month! My mother didn't smoke when she was pregnant with me, yet I was born with a very weak immune system and a congenital heart defect. 🤷‍♀️

Same old story here... I even knew this girl, a Master of Sports, her husband was a karate coach too... So neither of them ever drank or smoked... Their daughter was born without a tibia, and one leg is 13 cm shorter than the other... But then you look at smokers... Their kids are running about and absolutely fine.

I hope people can avoid my mistake and not listen to the "it'll be fine" mentality. I smoked a pack a day during pregnancy. I gave birth at 34 weeks (prematurely), and during delivery, they said: the placenta was in poor condition. The child was born seemingly normal (but that was only at first), followed by delays in mental development, motor alalia (started speaking at age 5), then endless visits to psychiatrists and a diagnosis of intellectual disability under question. Flat feet, complex astigmatism, amblyopia in one eye. Intellectual disability was not confirmed; he is now 8 years old (speech pathology persists). Do not smoke and do not delude yourselves into thinking it causes no harm. Nicotine is neurotoxic and damages the brain cells of the fetus.

I agree with you, and I'm saying the same thing, like drinking alcohol or too much coffee, that's already like nutrition reaching the baby, but cigarettes go to the lungs, where's the placenta where's the baby,, I think it's not logical that a cigarette interferes!
